Is it possible to use glovepie without ppjoy and still have functional joysticks?

PPjoy has always given me problems. Specifically, every time I restart my computer I have to delete everything then re-input all the settings in PPjoy. So when you mentioned glovepie without ppjoy, it peaked my interest.

I don't think you can get analogue sticks, only digital output without PPJoy. I read somewhere that if you had an XBox 360 pad plugged in you could emulate that without PPJoy, but I couldn't get that working.
