If you use parallels you'd be emulating on an emulated OS, not smart or efficient. Just make sure you redo the thermal paste as well. Seeing how almost all laptops are assembled at Foxconn, everyone should redo their thermal paste.

I know what you mean, but I really don't fancy taking apart a sealed unit, which will void the warranty to reapply thermal paste. I'll get the 3 year apple care package and if there is ever a problem It will go back to the store.
You'll need a special pentalobe screwdriver, and everything is glued to the case, so you'll either lose the screen, motherboard or battery through changing the TIM paste. Then, once you've broken it, it will be about impossible to fix, even if you are apple's best tech guy, so they'll basically just copy your data onto a new one, making the new TIM paste irrelevant, as it isn't on a Mac that you own.

Don't worry I have no intention of trying it lol
Which one are you getting? I have a mid-2012 MacBook Pro, the high-end 15-inch model without the Retina display.
-2.6Ghz Intel Core i7 (Quad-core)
-Intel HD 4000 or Nvidia GeForce GT 650M (Dolphin automatically switches to Nvidia)
-8GB DDR3 SDRAM

As far as I can see, the Retina MBP's have the same specs.

My results are that if you don't care too much about graphics, the emulator runs really well on default settings, even on Mac OS X. I've only tried two games though.

Twilight Princess (GCN): runs at full speed most of the time except in huge areas like Hyrule Field. Also characters have a strange lighting glitch that causes them to appear completely black except for their eyes when the time of day is sunset or so in-game.

Sonic Unleashed (Wii): Perfect, there's not much to say.

But the computer does run really, really hot after only a little time, so I would be very careful.

Yep, that's a common issue with the normal Macbook Pros. The thermal system is pretty improvable. The Macbook Pro Retina has a better thermal system Wink
Lol, I'm still wondering whether I should have gotten a Retina model instead. Oh and by the way I tried two new games.

Sonic Colors: Runs 100% the entire time! There aren't even any game glitches. This I find very strange, as Colors is an intense game especially in terms of graphics, and yet it is the smoothest game I currently have on my computer. I have even witnessed scenes that caused our actual Wii to stutter but not here.

However,

Super Mario Galaxy: nowhere near as good as the above or the other two games I tried. I have yet to see full speed, and the worst it has gotten to is 60%. What baffles me is that I tried this game on a much older MacBook and I get the same performance. There are also lighting glitches and the background music does not play. Disappointing.

And finally I should mention that Dolphin appears to overclock the CPU so mine has a potential speed of 3.6GHz.

Hope this helps further. Interesting results to say the least.

Wrong ! 2.6GHz -> 3.6GHz is impossible on a laptop . Especially , you're using turbo boost feature , it's no where good as real overclocking
Btw , Macintosh computers do not have overclocking capability

If you want background music in SMG, use LLE. But if you want to play this game fullspeed with LLE enabled, a desktop PC with an overclocked i5-3570k is needed. Wink A notebook can't handle LLE in SMG/SMG2 (exception: special gaming laptops with CPUs (Extreme-CPUs) which can be overclocked)
....Unless he has i7 3720QM : turbo boost
_ 3.4GHz (3/4 cores)
_ 3.5GHz (2 cores)
_ 3.6GHz (1 core)
If his CPU doesn't throttle or overheat , 3.4->3.5GHz Ivy Bridge will run SMG 1&2 full speed with HLE back end
And if he follows this guide , he should get close to full speed with LLE back end
