Quote:I don't understand why we're suggesting that someone blindly pick a graphics card based on price, that's just asinine. Find all the imformation and specifications that you need in a card and buy it based off of that. I'm surprised NaturalViolence is going along with this nonsense as well. Don't look at the specifications and base your decision on price, really? The website I use that lists all kinds of technical information is not good, but your method of looking at the price is good? Unbelievable.
Quote:The second half of my comment was aimed at NV. Doesn't really matter, it was just funny that he said looking at technical info is not a good way to compare video cards but looking at the price is a good way. Smile
Lets stay om topic.
Listed points to make your inevitable counter arguments easier to respond to:
1. Why is it ok for rpglord to make the exact same statement but not me?
2. Is is not a well known fact that cards with the same specs from different brands or even different chip generations from the same brand will perform differently despite having the exact same specs?
3. It is not a well known fact that price almost always directly correlates with performance in the graphics card market? For example a $90 card will almost always outperform a $70 card.
4. Is price not easier for someone who is technically illiterate to use for comparisons than detailed specs that are useless to all but the most well informed users?
5. If two cards are the same price is it not far better to use benchmarks to compare them than specs?
6. Is it not true that GPU performance in dolphin correlates poorly with performance in PC games due to lack of driver optimization for the software?
7. Doesn't that make the already mostly irrelevant specs even less relevant?
Logical Conclusion/summary: That's not to say that specs aren't completely irrelevant. Just that they are less useful compared to price and benchmarks when making any sort of comparison.
Quick side story: I learned a lot of this the hard way when I was making my video requirements thread. The results from the benchmarks don't make sense when you compare them by specs. Even the video memory bandwidth requirements, which seemed to be the most relevant spec, was very different from one architecture to another. I will however admit that if the difference is big enough the card with the better specs is probably better. For example a card with a 2TFLOP shader throughput is probably faster than a card with an 800 GFLOP shader throughput since that's such a big difference.

LOL what does that mean ?
Dont be stuborn and listen to users who know more about this topic then you.
I would generally agree with you that just looking at the price is very stupid way to shop and you can buy overpriced crap that way.
It just not the case when buying graphic cards

Who's being stubborn? Did you not read what I said at the top of this page? The last two sentences is all you should have told me from the beginning. That was my issue and I thought buying graphic cards was no exception. Still, thanks!

As much as I appreciate you defending me, please don't antagonize the OP like that. He did nothing wrong.

I fail to see how my response was below his "standards" for me or how my reasoning was not well explained (or at least implied). Regardless I explained them further in case their was any ambiguity.
Although it wouldn't make a lot of sense for anyone to have such standards in the first place in this type of forum and I doubt he does. If he does have such standards for me I am flattered but confused.

It was just a guess. Not that I'm trying to be a smart-ass or anything.

I know. Hopefully this has been cleared up to the point where we can get back on topic. Do you have any more questions for us?

Well to get back on topic, first link op provided has good configuration, its just shame that cpu cant be overclocked.
Also,I would recommend even better gpu, especially for pc games.
As for laptop, stay away from it,it has awful gpu
Also,as a general tip, laptops are almost never as good as desktop pc,because they have inferior parts perfomance-wise.
Trade off is that parts are smaller,so they can fit in laptop case, they use less electricity so more battery time, and they usually run cooler.

I do believe, we've already been through this before. That comment's liable to throw this thread off-topic, so let's not go there. Just saying.
