What do you mean by that? If you compare any two graphics cards 99 times out of 100 the more expensive one is faster.

I was referring to anything in general, not computer parts specifically.

I thought the GPU would be more than capable of handling games than the CPU, but I guess I was wrong.

You misunderstood me. You asked about graphic cards, and my answer was about that. Price is very good way to compare graphic cards.
My advice does NOT apply to whole computers.
There you can find overpriced garbage.
Lets take laptop you asked for example.
If you look for the price of the gpu itself, its only 49$

Which means its crap.
You cant get decent gpu unless it costs atleast 150$

_Unless you want the same resolution as the wii . 480p is ugly on any LCD monitor
_700$ isn't cheap for a crappy laptop GPU . 670$ for 9 hours battery life , fast i5 , Nvidia GT 540M for 1600x1000 resolution - higher than 720p(Check "Notebookcheck.net" for more details , Nvidia GT 540M = Nvidia GT 630M)

_It's not wise to buy a laptop at this time . You should wait a few months for the new coming mobile CPU - Ivy Bridge (i5/i7-3xxx = Ivy Bridge , i5/i7-2xxx = Sandy Bridge) . Ivy Bridge CPU will have the same price as Sandy Bridge CPU but it will deliver better performance .Integrated GPU of Ivy Bridge - Intel HD 4000 is on a level with a dedicated Nvidia GT 330M and therefore it's much faster than Nvidia GT 520M /610M , it can run dolphin at 720p .

I don't understand why we're suggesting that someone blindly pick a graphics card based on price, that's just asinine. Find all the imformation and specifications that you need in a card and buy it based off of that. I'm surprised NaturalViolence is going along with this nonsense as well. Don't look at the specifications and base your decision on price, really? The website I use that lists all kinds of technical information is not good, but your method of looking at the price is good? Unbelievable.

How is that a misunderstanding? You said, in a nutshell, the higher the price the better the GPU. My response to that was sometimes we pay extra just because a brand (any business, not just for GPUs) has good name recognition so they take advantage of the opportunity to inflate the price. I am no computer expert but I believe I know a good bit and I'm a quick learner - enough to know how businesses operate to make profit.

Thanks! The only advantages this has over the Asus is the GPU and battery life though. Will everything else be adequate to run most games? I guess I will be better off not getting anything right now like you first suggested.

It's not just asinine, it's asiten. I refuse to think that shallow when purchasing anything, which is why I am doing research and asking around for a better understanding of what works and what doesn't.
Quote:My response to that was sometimes we pay extra just because a brand
Not really . I bought Asus mobo and it died after 1 year , my Acer mobo last 3 years and my Acer monitor is still working (5 years)
Depend on the model / series (Asus Laptop : A , N , J , G ....series) . Some laptops are good , some laptops are bad

Quote:The only advantages this has over the Asus is the GPU and battery life though
You're joking , right ?
Battery Life is the most important thing when it come to mobile device . For Example , Fujitsu made a very good smart-phone that could run windows 7 but the battery life is only 2 hours . Would you buy it ?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhiODuPwthg

Without a decent GPU , you can't play PC games with good framerate

Not really meaning the answer is subjective so there is no right or wrong answer here. As a business major I am aware of these factors businesses use to sell their products.

What is there to laugh about? I have my PC plugged in all the time so battery life is not as important to me as to you. I agree with you about the GPU though.
Starscream,I didnt say your method is no good.
My method is for people who dont know anything about computers,pc parts etc...
Why is my method valid ? Because perfomance in graphic card market does scale with price really well.
You are not going to find a card which is 150$ and performs like $50 card.
Nor you can find a card which is $400 and performs like a $200 etc...
Such thing simply doesnt exist,no metter which brand, name recognition etc..
In fact, gpus with same chip and same perfomance are very close in price,no metter which company makes the final product ( amd and nvidia are only ones make chips, other companies just finish the job )

SnakeBoss,if you want to do proper research and not use my advice, then you should visit sites which have reviews of graphic cards, benchmarks, and then decide for yourself which card you want to buy
The second half of my comment was aimed at NV. Doesn't really matter, it was just funny that he said looking at technical info is not a good way to compare video cards but looking at the price is a good way. Smile
Lets stay om topic.
