I spent a lot of time inbetween me2 and me3 hoping bioware's writers wouldn't be so lazy as to give shepard a magic superweapon (the crucible in our case) that instantly fixes everything with space magic. I mean seriously, how fucking lazy of a writer do you have to be to do that!?!?

Now it's bad enough when writers do this and have the protagonist just find it out of nowhere with no explanation. But bioware went a step further. They attempted to explain where it came from in the most retarded way I have ever seen. Hundreds of civilizations over millions of years randomly made changes to the device. That's how it was built. None of the civilizations working on it had any clue how the device was supposed to work or even what it was supposed to do. And it happens to fit with the citadel perfectly. And it was destroyed/rediscovered by each civilization without the reapers knowing about it. To give an analogy this is like a civilization building a gun by giving a piece of metal to someone then telling them to build a weapon out of it without telling them what kind of weapon. You are expecting to have a gun at the end of all of this but you don't tell the person what to make or how it's supposed to work. So they start making random changes/additions to it, then burying it in the ground for someone to later dig it up and do the same thing. Then somehow after a long time not only do you somehow have a perfectly working gun but the protagonist finds a bullet built by another civilization with no knowledge of the guns existence that just so happens to fit into the gun and work perfectly.

And then to make things worse they gave us the catalyst during the last 10 minutes with no explanation and had him spout a bunch of bullshit that doesn't make any sense, contradicts well established lore, goes against the theme of the story, and invalidates previous plot points.

The catalyst talks about how the created always rebel against their creators but somehow the reapers, which he created, never rebelled against him and he seems to think that they never will. He then offers 3 choices all of which don't make any sense, force us to follow the antagonist without any real reason (thus invalidating shepards entire struggle), force us to accept a false premise without any real reason (that synthetics will always rebel/destroy their creators, which we have repeatedly proven is wrong throughout the entire series), and force shepard to do something totally out of character for no real reason. The extended ending adds the option to refuse to do any of the above three. This is an improvement since this fixed the above four problems. However if you choose this you automatically lose regardless of military strength and you have no opportunity to ask the catalyst about anything or poke holes in his logic. These endings invalidate your entire journey. Everything you did up to this point made no difference and that massive army/armada that you spent the entire game building makes no real difference other than deciding which endings you can pick (which doesn't make any sense because why would your military strength affect what the machine does?).
