Remember this?

Annoying to us that remember the SVN days, but tolerable. Now we're getting "4.01", "4.0271", "4.0.225", "Dolphin 4", "4-0-157". Where do these things come from?!

Weeellll....

To be fair it is an extremely stupid naming system.
Care to elaborate?
We talked about this in IRC yesterday. Someone said a Version number + Hash would be the best for git revisions.
Then people would never know how old each build is without checking
The best thing would be to actually go back to a SVN type nummering but still have all those branches like with Git.

It seems completely random.

Both the dates when the releases happen and the release numbers.

Also you switched from a one digit naming system to a two digit to a three digit system. I don't even know why the 0 is there. What are the second and third digits suppose to signify exactly?

That doesn't make any sense though if you do branching as extensive as Dolphin does these days.
Fine. Master gets SVN type nummering and the branches should keep their hashes. I know this isn't possible but whatever Tongue
@neobrain
Why don't we just go back to the two digit system for release builds (4.2 instead of 4.0.2)? You never answered my question about what the second digit is for. It seems pointless.
