Dolphin supports 4k already if you have the monitor that supports it with the auto option, what it doesn't support is much higher than that. And 4x is much higher than full hd that most people have right now and yet use it. Never mind the fact that such monitors will appear in high inches, and most pc users still won't use 32inches+ monitors unless it is for the living room.
Funny facts: If a 5x option would be used in dolphin it would give a slightly higher pixel output than even a 4k tv would give.
5x=>3200 x 2640= 8.448.000 pixels
4k tv=>3840 × 2160= 8.294.400 pixels
3x is stil higher than full hd giving a 1920 x 1584 resolution compared to 1920 x 1080.
Removing options just because stupid people might use them improperly is almost never a good idea in my opinion. It's just not a valid reason for why the option is "bad".

People always like to set the highest setting they can find no matter how much useful (or better say useless) that might have been, with more than 90% of dolphin users not really needing that option imo and then they storm the forums complaining why does dolphin is so demanding in their system (things become even worse in games that need efb to Ram with high resolutions also). If there was a 10x option i bet they would put that and still wonder why their pc can't handle it.
Having more options is always good. If people are trying to play at an overkill resolution not knowing it will harm their fps, just let them be. We also learned things by trial and error. Also, downsampling looks good

. And in some years from now (5? 10?), GPUs will have the power to run at every resolution available in Dolphin (like 4xIR+9xSSAA, which looks antialiased even at 3840x2160) and we'll have 4k monitors or whatever.

More like 2 years or the end of next year. In that time AMD will be making their new GPU while Nvidia releases a upgraded version of Maxwell that will get slaughtered when it comes to the price:performance. We'll have to wait for the 4k monitors though. (They are pretty useless for smaller screens so for now unless you have a really big tv 4k is a gimmick. )
The transfer from a non-retina iPod to a retina iPod was amazing, even though I didn't really see it as necessary beforehand. The same magnitude of change in my desktop monitor which I use all the time would be even better.
4.0.1 has confused ALL the noobs. They don't know what to call builds anymore! It used to be the only error we'd get was "r2345". Annoying to us that remember the SVN days, but tolerable. Now we're getting "4.01", "4.0271", "4.0.225", "Dolphin 4", "4-0-157". Where do these things come from?!
I just spent 3 hours trying to modify resize parameters within resize events in wxwidgets. It wouldn't ever work, no matter how I tried.
Fuck wxWidgets. Just fucking fuck it >_>.

The devs don't seem to agree with this notion. It complicates the code and can make improvements difficult or impossible.

Where can I rent this crystal ball that you're using?
AMD and Nvidia are on the same release schedule now give or take a few months. Maxwell and GCN2 are both being released the same year, 2014. Both will be refreshed in 2015 according to their respective roadmaps.

We already have them.
I'm fucking angry.
So my dad went to the store to return the RMA'd HD7970Ghz. People that read the random thread know that I've been getting lots of artifacts with it and the second card even broke after only 3 hours of playing.
I printed out the GPU i wanted instead. It was a nice MSI GTX770 Gaming OC 4GB Version with the Twin Frozr cooler.
Guess what?
They told my dad that the HD7970 is faster and being the idiot that he is, THEY ORDERED THE SAME GPU AGAIN.
I'm really fed up with this crap. Imagine having planned a nice weekend playing with your new GPU, only to find out it's shit.
Then imagine getting that feel 2 weeks in a row. I really don't want this to happen a third time.
I'M FUCKING PISSED OFF OF GETTING A GPU THEN BEING DISAPPOINTED BECAUSE IT'S SHIT THEN GETTING THE REPLACEMENT FINDING OUT IT'S EVEN MORE SHIT THEN FINDING OUT YOUR DAD IS A FUCKING IDIOT FOR NOT LISTENING TO HIS SON IN ANY WAYS.
I recently watched a video tutorial of how Cisco's IOS layer works and honestly i'm beginning to appreciate my slow internet speed.
