After thinking hard about the nature of religion, I realized that we have a very big problem.
First of all, maybe religion is a fundamental bug of human nature in most people, maybe their "need" of "confidence", fear of death, etc.
I don't know if it was made up to reassure people on their newly evolved intelligence that brought with it the ability to think about death and life, made up to increase the power of kings and "priests", or invented as an explanation for the then-mysterious. Either way, it has been around since the stone age/early civilization, used for all 3 purposes.
Christianity in particular, is essentially worship of a specific book written ~2000 or more years ago. It essentially states that there is a god that is kind to everyone, created all evil, humanity, and also has complete control over everything, yet cannot control people.
Ignoring at the obvious contradictions, <!--ouch, never argue with an idiot, he'll drag you down... --> there's no evidence, no proof of it, yet billions of people still follow a book written in an ignorant age with a highly limited knowledge of science? Despite that the book has been proven wrong many times already? (The great thing about science is that it's always improving)
So, you'll say that God's lying to us by planting false evidence?? Uh... no?
And the leprechauns. Everyone knows that leprechauns don't exist. Same with all the Mayan gods. We know that they don't exist, because they're silly, because we have no evidence that they exist. But modern Christians/Muslims/whatever <!--should be using a throwaway account, death threats? --> they believe in an omniscient being that knows everything, can do anything, but there is absolutely ZERO evidence, other than that book (bible/etc.). It's going to be a long battle against deliberate ignorance and the near-delusion. (also read my signature)

Maybe I shouldn't think too much, as it's going to depress me. Maybe I shouldn't think too much about the pointlessess of life, as it's going to depress me more. Maybe I shouldn't think about human mortality on long, sleepless nights, as... The only good thing about death is that I won't know it happened. Maybe humanity is doomed... maybe it doesn't matter, as far as my ball-o-neurons cares.
