No special TV is required. It uses IR, magnetic sensors to interact. Just like the Wii.
Oh yeah, IR
The trailer made it look like something else, the advances were impressive, especially the pad to tv video.
Have you seen this yet?
I like those demo's. I hope they'll release some form of them.

Nintendo spotted at e3
Also, Nintendo will reveal some new information about the Wii U
today.
Nintendo Direct on the first page of the thread to see the times and stream.
Last wii u thread was closed because I already made one

The two threads are not similar each of you should find a different name for each thread
Upon creating this thread, I have noticed no matches with the name "Wii U" when filling in the subject.
This thread was intended to redirect everything that has to do with the Wii U to one central thread, which was intended to get updated frequently as more information about the Wii U is getting released.
Under the term Wii U, we find it's hardware, software and games, and therefore I named the thread "Wii U". Anything more will be too specific.
I don't mind if this thread gets closed/deleted since ExtremeDude claims to have created one.
I'll leave it to the mods.
Changed part of the title to distinguish the two threads.
ED2's thread had turned into a "is a Wii U emulator possible?" so it was really different. Here we're talking about E3 and the future of the console. "Wii U : Present & Future" would sound well

So the Nintendo Direct stream just ended, but they've put the recorded content on that page, so you can still watch it if you click on the link above.
Here's what's new:
The Wii U controller is officially named the
Wii U Gamepad.
It has also undergone a number of
changes during development.
The Wii U Gamepad is able to operate without having the Wii U turned on.
You can
use the Wii U Gamepad as a TV remote.
For those that are
interested in a more traditional controller.
Nintendo will release the
Wii U Pro Controller
The Wii U has a completely new and revamped messaging system.
It also shows that there will be
no friendcodes. It will use usernames instead.
They call it the
Wii U Plaza.
Mii Wara Wara, or
Miiverse is Nintendo's Social Network that expands over the whole Nintendo Network.
It can be accessed by any device that can connect to the web in the future. This will not be immediately available at launch.
Miiverse on the Wii U will have your Mii's, your friends' Mii's and the Mii's from the people of your country who enjoy the same games.
The Mii's will gather around the game they're playing.
The
Miiverse can also be
seen ingame.
Is this a
hint of what
games we could expect?

What the hell is this.
looks better then the 360 Controller, because the Analogue Sticks are in line with each other like the PS1 Pad,the way it meant to be.
