Hey there, just wanted to share my toughts about this cpu.
I do not own 8150 but 8120 and so far i must say it was a nice upgrade (had dual core 1.8) and i do not regret a single penny yet.
With the price of this cpu going down i think it is a good option for people that have a low budget, specially people who are outside USA and Europe. This was my case, i saw benchmarks, i read opinions about the battle 8120 vs 2500k, i totally was ino the i5 until i saw price is 300 us dollars here, just the cpu, motherboard (cheapest ones) are about 110-120 + ram (cause i had ddr2) another 70, i dont pay light bills so i dont care about power consume.
I saw a "combo" offer on the net with a fx 8120+mobo+4gb ram 10 dollars below the i5 alone so, for another 200 bucks i dont wanna spend for not alot of performance (cause i upgraded to be fine with music and video edition, not for dolphin specifically), i bought the AMD and instead of 4gb standard i found a better deal for 8gb of high performance ram for the same price.
So far i am really happy with this upgrade, fast at video edition, fast at music production, i personally dont see the difference between 720p - 1080p so i just use 2x native resolution and im not a hardcore gamer too so i use simple settings like 4x filters etc, digging the net and finding the right version of dolphin i achieved 60 fps constantly in brawl and mario kart wich were the games i like to play with my friends every once in a while, they dont have to travel with their consoles anymore so im pretty damn happy right now, the only stage i dont have 60 fps is fountain of dreams on melee with 4p but bleeehh 55 is way more than ok.
Id say if you are going to buy a pc for hard gaming AMD cpus are not the option. If you buy intel you are paying for the best, but, for normal people who dont really care about anti alsing, 1080p etc etc (cause i personally dont see the big difference at high resolution), dont wanna spend 500 dollars for an upgrade and you are using the pc with software that supports more than 4 cores, then AMD is fine, not exceptional, just fine for the price. Phenom II X6 is good too if you can find it (not a single phenom in my country, thats why i bought the fx too)
In my country, i just dont see the point of paying extra 110 for performance i dont care at gaming and is not that big with the software i use, ill rather use that extra cash to buy a good mic or a good audio interface or whatever i really use.
