Doesn't matter i5 or i7 . i7 is a waste of money though
Without
K you can't overclock it
i5 3550 : Locked CPU
i5 3550k : Unlocked CPU
I wouldn't recommend you buy a locked CPU . LLE need a heavy overclocked CPU
Overclock a Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge are pretty easy/safe as long as you don't push it too far
Mobo and PSU play an important role for overclocking . Don't be so cheap on them
Do you have the I5 2500k in your area?
I really didn't want to overclock, since it wears out the durability and such. Can't I achieve the same amount of effectiveness by spending some more? I figured the i7 would be best, but I don't know.

Yes, why?

In that case , you should get i7 3770S (3.1-3.9Ghz) . With turbo boost , it should be equal to i7 2600k @ 4.2Ghz
Besides , it uses very low power for a beast i7 (65W-about the same as my dual core e5300) -> Pay less for electricity

That's great, thanks. People have been telling me not to get an i7, though I think it was because they thought I wanted to overclock.
Nope, it's just because for most tasks you are paying extra money for hyperthreading which in many situations will be marginally slower, not faster than non-hyperthreaded CPUs. If they don't make an i5 which has a different feature then it may be worth getting an i7.
Despite this, I'd still recommend a 2500k or waiting for a 3570k to be available.
I appreciate all the help but most of these names mean nothing to me. All I have is this shopping list and the will to spend as much as necessary to have the most complete machine to run Dolphin and PCSX2 games (and regular PC games, of course), except:
- I don't want to overclock
- No, the i5 3570k isn't available in my area but I can order it online, it's not a deal-breaker
- I don't want to overclock
Thanks!

Then you won't be having "the most complete machine" will you?
Sure, OK, if you say so.
What I want to know is... what CPU to get that will let me play fullspeed without the need of overclocking? Does such a thing exist?

The Haswell Chips that come out next May?
