Okay, overclock the CPU, got it. Thanks.

But I still have one question though: Shouldn't at least Super Smash Bros. Melee run pretty smoothly on my PC? Because it totally doesn't. If I have about 4 Characters on the screen, it starts to lag. It doesn't matter wether I play it in 1080p or 720p, wether I set AA to low or high settings..also the framerate is pretty stable all the time (around 50), even when it lags it supposedly does not drop. Help me out here guys, what am I doing wrong?
It's normal , the more player you add the more slowdown will occur .
That's a bummer, I thought my PC would be strong enough for SSBM. By the way, I'm not talking about REAL players, just on-screen characters. Thanks anyways you Guys. I think I'll try to run Super Mario Galaxy

Weird....I thought you would do 4 real players
Did you install the CPU and apply thermal paste correctly ? Make sure it not overheats or sth
I'm pretty sure I did, I have Idle-Temperatures around 40°C and temperatures around 65°C when I'm running Prime95. Is that okay?
Yes, this temperatures are okay.
Yet I have still lags. Is something wrong with my settings? Sorry for the inconveniences.
Btw 3XIR and 8XAA will bottle neck your GPU for sure . Try 4xIR and no AA , 16x AF
Okay, I've tried with 3xIr, No AA and x8 AF, worked pretty good for GC games (though not perfect.). I've lend a remote and SMG2 from a friend of mine, seems pretty laggy even with 1*IR and no AA.
By the way, I've made a mistake concerning the GPU: I have the HD 6850, not the 6870, sorry.

In the game properties, enable (full tick) 'Accurate VBeam emulation'.
Graphics settings: use the Direct3D9 backend with 2xIR, no AA, 1xAF and disable VSync.
Use HLE audio, XAudio2 output, 48000Hz.
With these settings,it should run much faster.

HD6850 is a decent card with solid drivers (unlike the newer HD7000 series) and enough power to run 99.9% games at 4xIR + 2x MSAA (D3D11).

The only exception being SMG1/2: Higher IR settings (>2x) need more CPU power as well.
