You'll notice a difference of day and night.
The 6870 is so much faster than the 6450.
You're really going to enjoy 1080P gaming. The games look really beautiful. As if it was intended for HD.
PC gaming will be a breeze aswell, so go ahead and download a lot of demo's to try the card out.
Quote:Yeah, I'm sure you're aware that components get more efficient and use less power.
Not necessarily. Energy efficiency in terms of performance per watt goes up, but top level power consumption for cpu and gpu have stayed the same for about 6 years now. A high end core 2 extreme from 2007/2008 uses just as much power as a core i7 extreme edition from 2009 (bloomfield)/2010 (gulftown)/2011 (still gulftown)/2012 (sandy bridge-E). The same goes for gpus. The power consumption of every category usually remains roughly the same from year to year while performance goes up.
Quote:Anyway, how did you meassure that? Or did you use the calculator? If so, mine only uses 397W.
Antec power calculator. For a mid to high end gaming system 450-650 watts is pretty normal. 650-1200 for multi-gpu ultra high end setups (three GTX 580s in tri-SLI use about 750-900 watts of power at full load by themselves).
Antec power calculator? They would never exaggerate the amount of watts you need in order to upsell to a more expensive PSU.
As for the OP. PC P&C were the best but no idea if OCZ fixed that. I use Seasonic myself. Everyone else's top PSU seems to be made by them so skip the middle man.

You can look at their numbers yourself if you don't believe them. It's the most accurate PC power calculator I have ever found.
I only had to replace PSU when i changed GT440 to Quadro 6000 And old PSU actually can handle that beast setup, but was just too close to maximum, i didn't want PSU overheating in a hot summer day. Also power consumption spikes at boot - hard drives need more power to spin up.
Just buy a quality PSU which is about 50 watts more than it's required for your system. 100 watts if you're paranoid or want PSU fan never go to high rpm. No need for a kilowatt PSU for a system with just one GPU even if you have 10 hard drives.

I saw a few people had posted since I left late Thursday. So as this thread isn't entirely dead, I thought I should follow-up.
I'm absolutely loving the PSU and video card. There were lots of cable options, so there was always a cord I needed to connect to my motherboard. (Though I admit it took me a while to realize that I could connect the PSU's 8-pin 12V cable to the 4-pin 12V slot on the motherboard - it even said I could do it on the box and I missed it!)
Loving the emulated Gamecube games. Its funny to have the game & case on my bookshelf and realize they pale in comparison to what my computer is giving me. 1080p for the win!
A special shout-out to Garteal. Couldn't have done it without you, man. Really amazed how nice people have been on this forum. It really does make me feel welcome, and that I need to pass along that "welcoming" feeling to other newbies, too.
