AMD FX series (Faildozer) is slow . Get Phenom II !!! then OC it (300-400Mhz should be ok)
Many guy in this forum bought Faildozer , they still complaining why it's so slow on Dolphin

I know bulldozer is shunned upon, but AMD is working hard to get the issues fixed. I do agree the Phenom II X4 series is very popular, but the architecture is also very old. For now the Phenom would be better, and have convinced the supplier to sell the AMD Phenom II X4 965 @ 3.4 GHZ for the same price (which is 89EU, which is dirt cheap) . Went with the MSI 870-C45 mobo, which sadly doesn't support USB 3.0... w/ USB 3.0=18EU extra which is ridiculous considering the mobo was 48EU (more than 1/3 price increase for USB 3.0, rest is rubbish). BTW the phenom II can OC to 4.2GHz with A good cooler (which is 800Mhz difference) Smile.

Also went with A different case, the silverstone ps04b.

No , it's not software problem . Bulldozer's performance per core is extremely bad , this was discussed many times ago. Phenom is much faster despite being 45nm CPU , only LLano can beat Phenom II 5-10%
Pentium Sandy Bridge G860 stock + Z68 mobo will rape Phenom II @ 4.2Ghz . You will be able to upgrade to Ivy Bridge later

Are you trolling? That CPU can't beat the Phenom II X4 965, period. I think you have too high hopes for Pentium processors. You know the G860 is being compared to the Phenom II X4 840, which is A lower end chip than the 965?

Edit: Also the newest games really make use of the Extra cores on the 965, G860 would struggle Smile
I'm talking about performance per core which is 2 cores vs 2 cores , not 2 cores vs 4 cores
Since dolphin is a dual core application , Pentium Sandy Bridge will perform better
Pentium Sandy Bridge is similar to core i3 2nd gen without hyperthreading . Then again bulldozer is likely Pentium 4 with 8 cores
Edit : You check single core benchmark when it come to emulation .

This PC is built for more than dolphin emulator, and I've just heard that the phenom II X4 965 runs stable @ 4.2GHz... on A stock cooler. LOL. Guess I was wrong Smile. Can go up to 4.5GHz with A good CPU cooler, which I have.

If there is A better quad-core CPU than the 965, name one. I haven't bought the CPU yet.

Edit: ofcourse it has to be A budget CPU, so no bloody i5 2500k. That thing will cost me 100EU extra.
Don't know about 4.5Ghz but 1 guy in this forum (i forgot his nickname) burned his mobo after a long period of "stable overclocking" (Phenom II 965 @ 4.0GHz), he used aftermarket cooling . I'm not saying this will happen to you but be becareful !
You should start with 3.8Ghz

He probably didn't check his voltages, I have A screenshot of A friend and like 5 videos on youtube that show me the CPU @4.2GHZ, CPU working 100% fine with max temp of 50 which is not bad at all. His min temp was 31, all on A stock cooler. Ofcourse I'm not immediately gonna go to 4.2 lol (even though it should let me, I'd rather not take A risk). If you know your voltages, your CPU temp, your case temp and have good airflow in your case this should be no problem what-so-ever (AND ofcourse A good heatsink, the best budget heatsink is the CM 212 Evo IMO). I've switched to A bottom mounted PSU case with front/back intake/exhaust fans respectively for nice airflow (intake/heatsink/exhaust). Silverstone always has good cases, even on the cheapest of the cheap. Only thing I'm worried about is the fan noise, guess only time can tell!

No he's not. Even a pentium G860 is faster than anything AMD has in MOST software (since most software does not achieve good load balancing with many threads). Only software that is heavily multithreaded and achieves good load balancing across most of the threads will run faster on a phenom II X4. And it's way faster than anything amd has at running dolphin.

Go look at some game benchmarks. A phenom II X4 is SLIGHTLY faster in some rts and fps games and that's about it. With both cores at full load on a pentium G860 performance is equal to a phenom II X3 with all 3 cores at full load. Only software that puts high or full load on all 4 cores will benefit from a phenom II X4, and there aren't many games that can do that. Even then the difference is small.

As for overclocking, anything above 4.0GHz will require a very significant voltage bump to remain stable and is not advised for long term use regardless of whether you can keep it cool enough.

A cheaper dual-core CPU that barely has any reviews, can perform as good as identically with A quad-core CPU that is on full load, more expensive, is backed up by 100's of reviews and has 4.5 or 5 stars for performance anywhere. I think you people are in A dual-core dreamworld or something, because you are the only people saying this. GL playing Crysis 2 on A dual-core CPU, or GTA4 or BFBC which are all very popular games. Roughly half of the games coming out benefit from quad-core CPUs: 1. smoother gameplay 2. faster gameplay. And 4.0GHz is very do-able, my friend has the phenom II X4 965 since it came out and keeps it @ that exact number: 4.0, on A STOCK heatsink. Like I said, keep checking your hardware and nothing will happen.
