Your hierachy should have gone as so in terms of speed

D3D9 --> D3D11 --> OpenGL --> Software renderer

I'm actually not sure about D3D11 and OpenGL could be interchangeable
Software renderer is only for debugging purposes
Probly get 1FPS when you get it working
concerning the video:
Difficult to say. But i'm pretty sure, that he used 3x or 4x IR (and maybe AA). Tongue but that's offtopic and like said before: you need a decent GPU.

These are the specs for the vid

cpu: intel core i7 920 @ 2.707GHz

6GB RAM

Graphics card: GeForce 260 GT

You need to upgrade you graphics card
For 1080p (and maybe 4xSSAA), the Radeon HD 6870 is a good option.

i stopped reading after geforce 520, really? he should be thanks full if a game can run
Do you mean that geforce260gt is better Than geforce520gt
This mentioned GPUs aren't good enough for 1080p and AA.

If i were you, i would buy a Radeon HD 6870...

The GTX 260 can actually
I think it's a personal preference and based on specific situations.

Most of my games works perfect with D3D9 and that's why I only use that because as said it's stable and fast.

Some games however might require D3D11 or OpenGL.

Some users due to OS situation is stuck with OpenGL and maybe OpenCL??
