Actually, to get the most out of Dolphin, you should at least have three or more cores. Two for Dolphin's Dual-Core option, and another for LLE on Thread, and LLE audio then should run on its own core. Though I believe your question about what CPU to get was already answered, at least somewhat.

When you say talk about this upgrade for Dolphin, you are talking about your laptop right? Like I said, I don't know how easy (or feasible) it is to upgrade the CPU in laptops. For desktops though, you have lots of options. If you want a good dual-core CPU for Dolphin, the i3-2100 is low enough in price, and it performs very well on a lot of games. Another cheap Sandy Bridge chip is the Pentium G860 and that handles most games fine. The i5-2500K, as previously said, will handle almost anything Dolphin can offer, with some overclocking of course.

Your settings look fine for the most part, except you should make sure the bottleneck here isn't your GPU. Try setting your internal resolution to 1x, and turn off all anti-aliasing. If you get speed boost, then that means your system is being limited by your GPU. If the frame rate and game speed stay the same, then your CPU is the bottleneck.

Laptop processors are NOT FRUs
What the hell is an FRU?
Good to see I'm not the only one who is confused.
You guys, no Google-Fu? :p Seriously?

I thought it meant something like Fully Replaceable Units, but I think Zee530 meant Field Replaceable Units
yeah so... i CAN take out my processor.... AND i CAN put in a new one. So yeah... its not soldered or anything. Just because its not common practice doesn't mean it cant be done.
How about i7 640m 2.8Ghz
Turbo 1 core : 3.467Ghz
Turbo 2 cores : 3.2Ghz
IMO , i7 -> i5 meh!
i5 560m is alittle faster than i5 480m . Approximation for i5 560m :
XenoBlade run full speed : 30 FPS
Zelda SS run well : 22-25 FPS (Pal-25) , 25-30 FPS (NTSC-30)
SMG : 42FPS (NTSC-60)
The Last Story : 15-18 FPS in big boss fight (Half-speed) , 30FPS in menu
Most GC and Wii game run well , don't expect full speed in every games

Thank you! Those are about the speeds im getting now after tweaking. Sad I think im boned here until they come out with some better g2 CPUs for lappysi get about 25-30 in SS. kirby adventure, mario kart, super paper mario i get 30fps, Twilight princess i got to 27 constant most all other GC games with no problems the only one i have trouble with at the moment are the big hitters EG : SMG 1 Dunno about 2 but i can only assume Last story XenoBlade Epic mickey Sonic colors i get 100% play out of but only at 20Fps

^^ Yep, field replaceable units
It’s seems that you’re having issues Asus G73jh laptop, as an owner of the same laptop here are some thoughts. In performance the laptop is still has high end performance for being a 2 year laptop and sure the CPU is clocked @ 1.60 GHz but that can be overclocked (and yes in a laptop), also with precautions. As of Memory (ram) normally laptop comes out of box 8gbs of ram (depends which model you have purchased) but it can upgraded to 12gbs.

Here are my suggestions for making the laptop better:

1. Upgrade of computer memory

2. Buy a new hard drive (Seriously as an owner of the same laptop, I bet you witness many problems like computer freeze or even BSOD. This caused by the stock hard drive that came inside the laptop, I really don’t know why but many users of the laptop have this problem)

3. Wipe and reinstall the operating system (always 64bit) without bloatware that came with the laptop.

4. After reinstalling your OS, install all necessary drivers.

5. Install the AMD control center (Graphics card drivers), Now there been weird been an issue called vertical lines all around the screen some g73jh users called it VSOD or vertical lines of death , it happens when there error in the video card bios (I have experience this when playing crysis 2 and super mario galaxy 2) go here for more info:

http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?519-G73Jh-GSOD-Vbios-Update&country=&status=

6. When playing games on dolphin some are smooth play and some are not. My settings where usually default but with framelimit off and Disable audio throttle.

Overclocking, it’s not for everyone and can harm your computer but if you want to do it take some caution when doing this process.

1. You might want to open up your laptop to put some new thermal paste and do not use cheap the stuff. (I used Tuniq TX4 thermal paste which has thick constancy which is great for oc) I also heard that you can get laptop repaste if you’re laptop still has warranty on your laptop by a professional that is certified by ASUS company.

2. Make sure your fan vents are clean because this laptop suck a lot of air and a lot dust can go in and the temps can go up.

3.Now overclocking the CPU is quite easy, there a program called throttle stop. It is use to unlock the clock speed of the cpu which were are talking about a g73jh laptop is around 900mhz. The laptop was clocked @ 1.60 GHz for a reason and the reason is battery life. ASUS G73JH can be called a laptop but it’s actually a desktop replacement.

For drivers go here : http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?1150-G73-74-53-Series-Driver-and-Application-Reference&country=&status=

I hope these suggestions could help you on getting all performance out the laptop.
