I like the direction this is going so far. Unfortunately, I won't be able to try it out for a week, but I'm still following this project very closely. As a critique, while some of the official art matches the tone of "high tension" (like Reyn, Homs Fiora, and Sharla), some don't really fit that well (Dunban in particular). My solution would be to superimpose some of the low-res portraits onto the new ones. Since the new portraits are more zoomed out, there shouldn't be that much of a loss in quality. I'm not very good with graphics design, but I've attached a very raw concept of Riki (do not use this one though, the quality is terrible). If you want, I can put some more effort into this for better results, I'll just need the original character portrait files. The same thing goes for the "low tension" portraits.

Thats a gread idea, will work very nice on Riki like you did! The Dunban one was troubling to me too, thought of what you said also when I made it. But in the end I decided it kinda suites his personality and focussed on other stuff since I ran out of ideas. It is easy enough for me to whipp up quickly in 2mins later so will add it to the next release. If however you have any other ideas or want source files to work or play with other parts, let me know and I will send them your way.



On a side note, I am in need of two stuff:

Firstly the affinity chart main picture of your party from certain parts of the game (see attachment below for which ones I have). I have the one with all 7 members, the one with 3 and the one with 4. If anyone can give me the savegames or dumps of the ones with Shulk/Reyn and 5/6 party members I can finish them also.

Secondly a savegame from about 2hours into the game, where colony 9 gets attacked just after you exit the cave, where Dunban joins your party for a short while as I need to dump his portrait from then, as it is likely to be a different file than later when he permanently joines. The developers did some strange things in the game....
Doesn't playing the game via Dolphin already convert things into HD? (if your res. is high enough) Isn't that what the resolution extrapolator's do?
It does, but it is guesswork. If you open an image and save a copy with half the resolution, then upscale that copy back to the original, and compare the two, the temporarily lower resolution picture will look worse as it does not contain as much information.

Dolphin allows for the output of HD resolutions through upscaling. There are some filters like AA and AF that make the upscaled image look smoother at higher resolutions. However, the textures are simply images that are mapped over a surface. The textures are stored on the disc and their size does not change. This means that the texture must be stretched in order to fit the upscaled resolution. This is the same effect as stretching an image in mspaint; it gets larger, but it looks more pixelated. The goal of this project is to replace the textures in the game with textures 4x their size, so that they are not stretched when upscaled to 1080p.

I just registered in this forum to say thanks to layberneth!

Man.. I'm playing Xeno for 60 hours now and ur HD retextures just made it so much more enjoyable. The whole game looks much better now.
The only thing I have is that on the start menu NEW GAME, CONTINUE, OPTIONS are doubled.

Keep up the project. Hope to see some updates.

Glad you enjoy it! I picked up the issue with the double text, are you playing on DX11 by any chance, switching to DX9 fixed it for me. When you use higher than default resolution, it seems like the DX11 plugin doesnt scale it correctly. I had the same issue testing my HD fonts, everything is one big mess on DX11, so DX9 is advised.

Speaking of, almost done with the next build, it includes HD fonts everywhere, bunch of portraits I missed, much higher resolution grass and foilage in the colony 6/9 area, and maybe one or two other stuff.

I am still need of the affinity chart dumps for the main characters which I posted a few posts ago, I managed to get the ones from the start of the game. But I am in need of the dumps from the parts of the game where you have 5 and 6 party members. If you do not know what I mean, a simple savegame from that part of the world will do. If I can get that I will add that too in the next build, so cmon folks!

Also is it possible to make the the bars and icons(hp bars and images of characters) on the left 1/2 of what they are now? it takes up way to much of the screen(playing on a 96 cm diagonal tv and it take up almost 1/4 of the screen) in my opinion,that would be great,also a little more transparency would be nice also,keep up the good work

Thank you, I got the one with 6, unfortionately that save with 5 members is too far in, I need one from earlier, that affinity chart shows Riki and Melia, I need one with just Melia. Last one I need now.

I got a bunch of new portraits in my next build, about 100 more than I had, so pretty sure I got that one for Dunban fixed, else I will add it then. Problem is the game acts funny with party portraits during combat, it has different names depending on who else is in the party and in what slot. So I will miss one here and there. As for the size of the bars and icons, unfortunately that is not possible, due to the way the anchors are positioned, also because font scaling isnt possible for the same reason. But I will do my best to make it prettier to look at!

Well it's not about prettier images,it's about quality ones and you certainly did that,also they are smaller and every icon/image in this game the smaller the better,to bad about the scaling,it really pisses me off in some battles you can't see some stuff because of bulky bars add some shitty and awkward camera control in the mix and you get a clusterfuck of bad battle controls,like in the middle of a fight,when battling 6 or more mobs you have time to press Z and move the camera around(camera controls SUCK so bad did i mention that before?)wish something can be done to alter that,anyway looking forward to your next release.
