It should be noted that if you want to make heavy use of LLE, especially LLE on thread, then a quad-core is worth the investment as you'll use up to 3 cores for that. I personally love being able to use LLE almost all the time.
^ may I ask what is LLE and are you saying a quad core with LLE enabled will give more FPS and or look better?

Better audio but much slower in speed
Mario Galaxy , Donkey Kong CR , Xenoblade need i5 2500k @ 4.4Ghz or more to run fullspeed with LLE backend

A sandy bridge i3 at 3.4GHz will easily beat a phenom II X4 at 4.0GHz in dolphin if LLE on thread is off.
