I saw some of you guys saying like "set to DirectX 11" in some posts but my question is, aren't our graphic cards supposed to support DX11 in the first place?

Me for example, I've Nvidia GT 230 with 1.5gb and 4gb shared memory. It's an OK video card for gaming but it won't be able to play DX11 games. Is there much difference from DX10 to DX11? Please tell me I'm not missing out a lot Tongue.

Cheers - T
No, you have to set Dolphin to use DirectX 11 instead on 9 in Graphics. DirectX 11 is still in development, 9 is better for most games.
Also, DX 10 cards can run the directX 11 dlls, but wont be able to use dx11 only features, which Dolphin doesn't have. So yeah you can use the dx11 backend with a dx10 card in Dolphin, but like HawaiianPunch said at the moment dx9 backend is better.
DX11 is faster for some GPUs like the GTX580 (Yeah, i tested it and it actually is)

But DX9 is more stable and better

Yeah I also thought DX9 would be more stable & better, give better performance. But visual-wise, how much of a difference is there between DX10 & DX11? If there's too much difference, I might start thinking of upgrading my video card.
Depends on the game. For example, no difference at all for games that work perfect in both. DX9 and DX11 really don't have any difference--mainly.

The only game I have encountered a difference in is Rayman Origins. I can't play 60 FPS without DX11 on. It also makes the cutscenes not a glitched mess.

In most games, it causes big slowdowns...so in other words, no difference, really.

Wait... you're telling me by improving the graphics (switching to DX11) you're getting a better performance? Sorry for the confusion :S.
It can. Some games need DX11 to work correctly (Sonic Heroes or Enter the Matrix for example) but most games work fine with DX9

Thanks for the clear up Smile.

Are you talking about the video backends for dolphin or PC games?

Please for the love of god people use the term video backend when you're talking about dolphin or your sentences will be confusing. For example:
Quote:No, you have to set Dolphin to use DirectX 11 instead on 9 in Graphics. DirectX 11 is still in development, 9 is better for most games.

Is completely wrong. DX11 was finished in 2006 and released in 2007. DX11 is better for game development than directx9 because it's a newer less restrictive version of the API. But:
Quote:No, you have to set Dolphin to use the d3d11 backend instead of d3d9 in the graphics section. The d3d11 backend is still in development, but the d3d9 backend is better for most games.

Would be correct. Because now you're talking about dolphins backends instead of the API.
