Does he want to? I mean what's Obama position about this? Has he talked about it? Wouldn't it be "interesting" for him to use his veto (electoral strategy I mean, popularity)?

Well lets say the issue gets the attention it deserves. It's basically free votes to whatever candidate opposes it... see here:

The White House just released a statement commenting on the pending SOPA and PIPA anti-piracy bills in congress. While the Obama Administration sides with the opposition by saying that free-speech should be protected, censorship is evil, and that DNS-blocking is a no go, the statement doesn’t mean that the bills are off the table.
Obama won't veto it if he think it will hurt his popularity. He's needing it from what I hear. Then again, I can't see why the consumer would want SOPA to pass

because they only know the name of the act?

[sarcasm] Stop Online Piracy Act sounds like a great idea, just from the name I can tell it's good and should be passed because its only about stopping piracy because that's what it's called so I don't need to read any more information about it. [/sarcasm]
I see.
For the US residents, has there been any news coverage from the media(TV, Radio) of both the bills, or has this remained so far internet-news-only? I understand if the main media companies wouldn't want to spread the news there, given that they're the ones supporting these ridiculous bills... (which will sadly hurt the rest of the world, even if it's a US-only law)

But back on topic, my friends didn't know what SOPA was, but nearly everyone who works with computers knows it here, how's it in US?
