Hey everyone,
Just wondering what is the most resource intensive Gamecube game, and what would the recommended requirements be to play it at 720p at the least?
Thanks,
Michael
hmm... well StarFox?
but... well
with a 2500k at stock speed every gameCube game should run with dsp-lle?
ati 5770
or nvidia 260
and everything with better performance should work well for 720p
just wait 2-3weeks after new year
and you should get a build for 550-600bucks
otherwise a overclocked
amd build could work well for around 350-400bucks
but with the intel build you could run every wii game :>
and some wii games are usable with classic controller (gamecube controller)
You'd better have told us your specs and we'd have confirmed you if you could play GC games
Thanks for the reply. I'm still torn on whether or not to build my rig to accommodate the most intensive Wii games as well, or just focus on making it compatible with Gamecube. My goal is to minimize the clutter so I'll be building a rig that can run various different systems which will allow me to put everything into storage. I plan to sell my Wii and get the Wii U next year so that will be able to play the Wii games anyways. I don't really feel like leaving my Gamecube hooked up and since Wii U can't play those (as far as I know, but I'm pretty sure it can't), I'll want to incorporate that into my rig.
With this in mind, can I get away with lower specs for the CPU as well? How well would an i3 2100 handle Star Fox and other intensive GC games at 720p?
Thanks,
Michael

I don't have any specs yet, and I am currently in the process of researching what to get.

i5/i7 would be a better choice. Most games will work
An i3 should be enough for any GC game (except maybe starfox). And it's cheaper and has a much lower TDP than an i5/i7. A 6570 GDDR5 should be enough for even 1080p (6670 if you want to be on the safe side) and comes in a low profile version. In fact if you're willing to restrict yourself to just GC games you could build a small/low power/quiet rig if you're interested in that.

I'm not sure where this idea that GC games need a weak PC to run and Wii games need a really great PC. The fact is that there are just as many GC games that need a very strong PC to run well as there are Wii games, you probably just never tried them. It's all about the games, you can't just make a broad statement about the entire console's library. There are some GC games that need just as much power to run at full speed as Mario Galaxy does, so lets try to not make these generalizations.
The vast majority of "heavy" games are on the wii. Start dumping a bunch of random GC games and you'll quickly discover that the vast majority of them are not very demanding. The wiis library seems to have a greater number of "heavy" games and even the slowest GC games (MP, MP2, star fox adventures come to mind) are MUCH easier to run than the slowest wii games (mario galaxy, mario galaxy 2, xenoblade chronicles, donkey kong country returns, sonic colors, skyward sword). Sequels on the wii are pretty much always harder to run than their GC predecessors (SSBB, mario kart wii, skyward sword, sonic colors, etc.). And just look at the games that people are complaining about performance issues with high end hardware, nearly all of them are on the wii.

Name some. I have never played or heard of such a game in my two years on this forum.
I've dumped about 20 GC games and about a dozen wii games. I have observed that nearly all of the games that I have trouble running are on the wii. So I guess I must be REALLY unlucky then.
Excuse me, are you telling me to start dumping games to find out which are demanding? I've already found out all the info I need and am now telling you about it. You're funny.
Games that need a beastly PC are:
1) Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2
2) Call of Duty Finest Hour
3) Splinter Cell
4) Medal of Honor
5) About 20 other games that need mmu
I still think you're wrong, but I'll drop it.
