Make sure disable format changes and openMP texture decoder are both checked. Set safe texture cache all the way to fast.
Thanks, i don't get the lag any more (only a bit in the course selection but thats tolerable) so i don't need to upgrade!

I doubt you're going to be playing the MK forever, you will need an upgrade for more intensive games eventually

i can play bf3 on high settings at constant 60fps so im fine at the moment

Ok, i have come to realise that i have an AMD motherboard therefore unable to use an intel processor therefore i have done some researching and i have come across this processor
http://www.ebuyer.com/284505-amd-phenom-ii-x6-1055t-95w-2-8ghz-socket-am3-6mb-l3-cache-hdt55twfgrbox it has a L3 Cache and is better than the processor i saw on the dolphin demonstration page, which is an AMD Phenom II X4 (i think).
It's a bit over my £100 budget but hey, it looks like a worthwhile investment, since i spend most of my time gaming.
You won't gain any benefit from it. You already have a phenom II X3. The only thing you will gain from upgrading to a phenom II X6 is 3 additional cores. Dolphin won't use the extra cores at all and 99% of PC games either won't use the extra cores or will gain no noticeable benefit from them.

He meant emulated games. Emulation is not comparable to running native software (such as a PC game).

yeah but my computer uses about 95% cpu when running dolphin, yet my cousin (he has all same specs as my apart from that he has a 4 core processor) does not experience this lag or CPU usage
What game is he playing (he might be playing a less demanding game)?
What settings is he using?
What are his full system specs (he might be using a different microarchitecture)?
All I can tell you is that dolphin along with nearly all PC games will not use more than 3 cores, this is a fact. You will not gain anything from that upgrade.

Same game (mario kart wii)
He didn't change any settings, so its default.
When my dad ordered my and my cousins pc, he could only afford to get a 3-core processor for me, but my aunt was paying for it and my dad could fit the 4-core into the budget she had, so the builds are EXACTLY the same (when he ordered the amount was 2 for each component).
Something else must be different, it's the only possible explanation. Either your settings are different or the revision or something else. You will not see any difference in performance between 3, 4, or 6 cores.
