Ok so not too long ago I posted my build and was told it wouldn't be able to play SMG 1 or 2 at full speed so I held off on purchasing the games. (See thread - http://forums.dolphin-emu.org/showthread.php?tid=19959)

Now I've ordered pretty much a new build (will be here next week) and wanted to ask the question again just to make sure I didn't go wrong somewhere.

Just curious though what should I attempt to overclock the i5 to if I want to get maximum performance out of dolphin or is that even needed?

Dolphin can use whatever you throw at it right now, so an overclock can be proved useful in games that need LLE audio or other special demanding settings to work.If you want to play it safe i would go for a 4,2 ghz overclock using about 1.22 voltage. 4.5 ghz + will need a voltage close to 1.35v, i wouldn't suggest to use such a voltage for a very long periods of time.

So you think there'll be no issues with any of my components with that type of overclock? I think I'll go with your 4.2 ghz to start and see how it goes and then go up to 4.5 if I need it. Is 4.5 really necessary anyways? Keep in mind I'll be playing at 1600x900 though not sure if that makes a difference.
Your heatsink isn't all too great to run high voltages that create a lot of heat but if you can keep the temps down go for it. Keep in mind you can still use c states so you don't always use that max voltage and clock.
I think you mean to say P states.
We'll it kinda both in this situation I mentioned where c states is the idle and p is a lower powered state but are listed as c state controls in bios.
Really? I thought you could get 4.3 Ghz at stock voltages on air?

Rare. It will run hot also. Most of those people that say they can but probably haven't really stressed to make sure its 100% stable for 24/7.
