Yeah I don't know what this whole thing is about, it takes no more then 30 seconds to wipe the shit off with a rag and some cheap tequila.

I think some people still use Arctic Silver 5 just because they bought a tube and still have some left in it. Why let perfectly fine thermal paste go to waste, think of the environment.

cpu(flux/tim) -> heatspreader(tim) -> cooler

we are not speaking about the heatspreader to cooler TIM...
its the connection between die(cpu) and the metalcase(heatspreader) around the cpu
where ivybridge used tim
where sandybridge used flux
And I don't know how the discussion about Ivy Bridge Benchmarks turned into a discussion about this stuff anyway so it doesn't really matter what we talk about here it seems.
Old news ExtremeDude2 lol.

Now for some new.... news. A brave forum member ripped off the IHS off his brand new 3770K and did a comparison, to see how it would perform with and without the IHS attached.

The result? Absolutely nothing different. So, I guess that answers that question. Check the link for all the details, and the chart.

Then apparently you didn't read through the thread.

Yes it does. This directly relates to ivy bridges thermal issues.
I am now the proud owner of a Core i5 3570K! I was nervous about it at first, but I've been watching overclocker.net for weeks now, and it seems to perform very well versus sandy. And Microcenter had SUCH a deal on it, I just couldn't pass it up. $60 off the CPU, $50 off the motherboard, $10 off the ram (just cheaper there). Now that's a deal. Here's the parts list and prices.

$190 - Core i5 3570K
$90 - Asus P8Z77-V LX
$40 - 8GB Crucial Ballistax DDR3-1600 (2x4GB)

It's an instore only promotion, and I live in the boonies, so I had a friend pick it up. Once I get it, I'll start doing some tests and posting some benchmarks Big Grin.

Please do, we could use a thread with some screenshots of how it handles so heavily emulated areas
Quote:$190 - Core i5 3570K
Damn, that's a steal! It costs around €10 more expensive than the 2500K here.
Too bad they don't ship, I bet that would even be cheaper than buying one here.

Sure, perhaps we can compare our CPU's, and see how much better the Ivy Bridge is for Dolphin?
