from what i can tell, the opencl stuff was made to fit the opencl 1.0 spec, if it was opencl 1.1+ it would gain some performance improvements.
Yeah, that's what everyone says. We need someone to actually make use of that stuff :p

I think Civ5 does that with DirectCompute.
OpenCL can write to GL textures too, someone just need to do it.
yeah, it was an addition to CL1.1
