Never ever is such a finite thing to say. Multitasking, with a memory intensive game will put it over 4gbs easily. But, in everyday use it's rare to surpass 4gbs unless your a doing commercial work with big apps or files.
That's why I said "at least in the coming years", and I'm talking about the games memory usage, so I didn't consider multitasking

Running multiple virtual machines simultaneously, that's the only thing I have ever done that could actually exceed 4GB of physical memory usage.
And about hard drive, Use RAID0 (Stripe) with two 500 or 750GiB (1TiB 500x2 or 1.5TiB 750x2) then you reach both speed and space

.
It's way harder to recover data from failed raid0.
Quote:2TB drives have become ridiculously expensive.
Hint : try to find external USB drives in small stores then just remove hdd from case, some of them haven't changed prices yet. Bought 10 2Tb usb drives last week =)
@Delayline
Those motherboards are LGA1366. Sandy bridge is LGA1155, and sandy bridge is advised for dolphin because it's substantially faster than bloomfield/lyynfield/clarkdale/gulftown.
And that power supply is way over the top for his needs.
oh boy....can't believe that socket was recommended. shouldn't be giving hardware advice.

Sorry my bad, Hmm then he can go for FX 8150 8Cores @ 3600MHz/3900MHz Turbo 8Cores/4200MHz Turbo 4Cores with SSE4 support (SSE4 is not SSE4a) and Asus Crosshair V Formula or Asus Sabertooth.

Bulldozer is basically the worst modern cpu architecture for dolphin and pretty much any application that uses 4 or less threads.
