Get at least a GTX560 to play games in FullHD.
Well then I hate to tell you this but you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. A GTS 450 will eat 1080p with a 3x IR for breakfast, in fact it's probably capable of 4x IR without producing a bottleneck. I don't think you understand just how little gpu resources dolphin needs.

I don't think he'd need a new GPU. Just overclocking his CPU should do it, and he would probably be able to play at 3x IR fine without AA.
what i7 do you have because there are many. if its a 900 series CPU then you could just overclock it to about 3.8ghz and it will run anything at full speed just fine( as long as the emulator runs the game at full speed unlike some games like geist that are just broken) if you want to run at a higher res then get rid of the 450 if you want a gaming card from nvidia your 1st stop should at least be a 460 gtx upto the 480s then in the 500 series start at the 560 gtx because anything lower than the X60 range is usualy not a good gaming graphics card.

That's true, I thought he'd want more eyecandy though.

MORE
I have 4850 which practically equal to 450, and still choke at 4xIR with AA on some games.
Whoa, seems like I underestimated the 450 then. That's good, cause I'm probably going to buy one this xmas ^^
Anyway then, this makes my line of thinking mostly right, so I repeat my suggestion:

Don't know much about the 450 but I don't think it will like having AA enabled. Resolution increases shouldn't be much of a problem though like you said
MSAA and FXAA will have no performance hit. SSAA will have the same performance hit as raising the internal resolution by the same amount (for example 2x IR + 4xSSAA gives you the same internal resolution as 4x IR). So you're right, it won't be able to handle a high IR and SSAA at the same time. But that's not an issue since the interpolation filter for 4xSSAA is broken anyways and probably always will be (currently 2x IR + 4xSSAA will look exactly the same as 4x IR). And 9xSSAA at anything above native internal resolution is virtually impossible on all but the most powerful graphics cards. His gpu is fine, he just needs a cpu overclock.

Yeah, I was talking about having both AA and higher IR at the same time. Anyway, what do you mean by 4xSSAA is broken? You mean it doesn't work?
