"Do you have a string of Christmas lights? , plug them in. then hide all but 2 of them, try to get them even, then point them at your play space - Tada! instant wired sensor bar!" this is whats so ridiculous.

It sounds indeed ridiculous, but it works. I personally haven't tried them, but if MooCow says it works, it probably does.
You can also use candles. Light em up and place them infront of you (where you aim your mote).
Basically anything that emits enough infrared light can be used as a sensor bar.

So basically i have to figure out the button configuration for a gamecube controller on a ps3 or will this http://www.motioninjoy.com/ work because i have it just not sure if thats what i need or not, or would my best bet be to attempt to find a GC controller somewhere and rig it to a usb?
Under Config, in the Gamecube tab, is 'Standard Controller' selected for Port 1?
here is what it is i havent even bothered messing with the settings so its as is after i unpacked it yesterday
Good, good.
If you click the GCPad icon and select one of the two PS3 options, you should see a list of buttons that would be found on a Gamecube controller along with some clickable icons. Clicking on one will give you a few seconds to push the button on your controller that you want Dolphin to treat as a Gamecube's button.
Well thats the thing ive been trying that but it doesnt seem to work but as im typing this i see things on the configuration menu lighting up and moving but NOT when i use my ps3 controller do you think i need the motionjoy thing or should i try to update my drive to the ps3?
use the motioninjoy it easy to set up and works for me i just can't get the shake to work

Oh man, this is a post from a LONG time ago... However, I really need some help!
I currently have Dolphin Version 4.0.1, with the most recent version of MotionInJoy (0000.7.0005? Something weird and extravagant like that.) and I can't seem to make this work!
I've tried each setting within Dolphin and MotionInJoy: And I can properly bind my buttons to the GamePad within Dolphin, however, the game I'm playing doesn't pick it up... Even WHEN I change the setting inside of the game.
The disc image is fine; (MH3) I know it is, because I played this ISO with the Keyboard and Mouse to check it... And the bindings work fine for my keyboard!
So please, anyone, someone... Tell me what I'm missing! The world's full of tiny checkboxes and I probably missed one. Is there a certain setting I need within these two programs in order for proper emulation?
I am running a single Dualshock 3 controller with the wire and MiJ... Please help!

And if so how and what do i need to get this is started to do it, i cant find any answers anywhere i go, i read Motionjoy? works..but i have no clue how to set up any of this if someone could tell me a step by step or lead me in the right direction that would be great!
I know this is old but if anyone is here today with this issue go into controller settings
Select your ps3 controller from the drop down menu
right-click on the buttons you want to change instead of left-clicking. A menu will pop up.
On the bottom hit clear.
Push the button that says detect.
Push the button you want to use for that one on your controller. It will select it in the list for you.
Push the button that says select. The button name should show up in the box you cleared below.
Hit apply.
Hit ok.
Go to the next button.
If you right-click by mistake just close and reopen the controller settings window. Everything you've done so far should still be there.

In the future, be sure to make a new thread with specific instructions like this rather than reviving an old thread. It'll be more visible in searches and have the solution as the first post. Posting here was fine, but we close old threads like this because of our rules against necroposting.
