As an expression, to my language low profile would translate to the same thing as discrete (I assume that from the expression "keep a low profile" we always see in movies Big Grin), but that doesn't make much sense to me...

Well it is smaller Big Grin (not sure if that is a good enough answer for you tho :p)

Low profile cards are for computers that aren't big enough to hold a standard sized expansion card. Their general maximum size is 2.5 by 6.5 inches.

The OP is planning a Media PC build, Media PCs are rarely larger than a VCR and thus a full size graphics card won't fit.

Discrete GPUs are gpus that have there own dedicated memory, called video ram. Integrated gpus share main memory with the cpu. The term discrete is also sometimes used to refer to hardware that is on a separate circuit board from the main system (an expansion card, like a graphics card for example), while integrated hardware is built into the main system somehow and doesn't require an expansion card add on. The two uses of the term tend to go hand and hand since graphics cards tend to use dedicated video ram while IGPs built into the main system tend to share main memory with the cpu.
Thank you for all you help I think I will go with the gt430 unless the other card goes on sale on black friday

The dimension is about the same as the powercolor card earlier, but seems OP has decided his choice.
I was looking at the EVGA 01G-P3-1430-LR GeForce GT 430 (Fermi) 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130579) and noticed that the card looks low profile, I do not know if it come with a low profile bracket to put into my HTPC. Does anyone know for sure if this comes with a low profile bracket?

Soo, Low profile is all about the physical size then?

I need a card that has a low profile bracket that can be connected to my case. In order to have a graphics card support a low profile bracket, it must not be taller than a low profile bracket.

Doesn't matter. No low profile bracket = not low profile.

Yes.
