I was unable to make a thread in the off topic section, so I will just post it here.

I am looking to overclock my Phenom II X4 965. I have the corsair h50 on it. Its stock frequency is 3.4Ghz and I want to shoot for 4.0. I have somewhat of an idea on what I should do in my bios, but I don't want to screw anything up. My mobo is the Biostar TA890fxe.

Thanks for reading
Big Grin cool i didnt know you could do that
I can run Dolphin on my 955 @3,2Ghz in 720p pretty well.
So unless you want to go for 1680x1050 or higher I don't see a reason to overclock and lose your warranty.

gpu handles that
What anon said. Anyway, shoot for 3.8. It runs most games amazingly well. Currently playing Zelda: SS @ 30fps with rare drop downs.
get a good after market cooler and no bullshit like the h50/h70/etc
Well, I got it up to stable 4ghz. Ran prime 95 for about 12 hours. Donkey Kong Country Returns now runs (1080p + 4x internal res) at ~54+ on first level. I have read it takes an overclocked intel i7 to run Super Mario Galaxy at constant 60fps in high settings...is that true? I still get slowdowns in Twilight princess even changing everything to low settings in hyrule field.

What would be a good aftermarket cooler?

every cooler in combination with a sandybridge i5/i7 (k-Version)

@dannzen

That makes no sense. You're essentially saying that all aftermarket coolers are good, which we all know is not true.

@supermariogalaxy

A corsair H50 is fine. It might not be quite as good as some of the high end air coolers out there but it's good enough for your needs and it not worth upgrading.
