not good
Maybe there is a possibilty of a refund?
I might be able to, if I say they sent me the wrong part lol.
In any case, what Gabriel is saying here gives me hope since he's just running at 100 mhz more speed.

Before I wiped the rig I tested some games just for the heck of it and..... nearly all of them was fullspeed all time, including Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2.
And this was on stock speeds, no OC or nothing. I almost felt right away that the games was 100% smoother then before.
I loved the Sandy Bridge but this thing OH BABY, me like Ivy Bridge even more...

You're going to regret it if you attempt to play heavier games that require some OC'ing.
Besides, you don't need watercooling. Air cooling is more than enough and costs a whole lot less money and stress.
Yeah the K version is always better, heck if you're going to spend money then buy the full unlocked thing.
As for watercooling, it's mixed.
When I bought the i7 2600K I wanted a nice clean solution that didn't take much space in the case.
I reused it now for the i7 3770K and it probably ends with that.
Though a self sustained watercooling system is calculated to hold for 50.000 pump hours I sure as hell don't trust that.
I'll probably switch to air cooling next winter 2013 or something.
As you said Garteal to much stress.
So wait, you can only reach 3.9ghz on an unlocked processor?

I don't think there is going to be any problems, it's only 100 MHz really but it stops you from OC and that's a little sad.

With Turbo Boost yeah 3.9 MHz is maximum.
But if you OC, OH BABY.

Is it on its way already, or still being 'sorted'?
If its the latter, you can cancel it right now and get the other one. If its on its way... tell the postman to bring it back.

This shouldn't give any major improvements ofcourse, but Gabriel didn't state the areas hes been to test the performance.
I trust his results ofcourse, but you're going to need to overclock your CPU a bit, to atleast 4GHz or so for a consistent 60FPS for Super Mario Galaxy.

True, but have you ran into any game where you didn't reach max performance on stock speeds? If so, who cares!
I've never overclocked my cpu, so if every thing runs fine at stocks speeds, I'm not worried about it ya know?

They already shipped it. lol at telling the delivery guy to bring it back.
That's the thing I'm wondering about. Can I still adjust speeds to 3.9 max even if the cpu isn't unlocked? If so... no big deal!

The 3.9GHz is the Turbo Boost, which automatically kicks in when your CPU is on load.
I'm gonna be honest here. Right now... this moment I'm thinking if I even should OC or not because the speeds I get now is just sick as hell.
OC to 4.5 GHz what would I gain? If I would gain anything at all that is.
3.9 GHz Turbo Boost is really close to 4.0 GHz and that's pretty high in my book.
I might do it a little later on when I have played with it for a while, but right now it's just play and enjoy the show with no worries.

Ok, so there we go.
Could I get away with using the stock cooler and OCing (assuming I swapped cpus) without any issue?

You're running at 1920x1080 right? Try any game that has a lot of stuff going in the background and let us know if you see performance drops. If not, i'm keeping what they sent me and saving me 20+ bucks lol.

I strongly recommend you not to try this.
The stock coolers are really, REALLY bad.
And with the Ivy Bridge supposedly running hotter than Sandy Bridge, you should be even more careful.
Just get a decent cooler and you're set. Some that I recommend: Cooler Master Hyper 212+, Cooler Master Evo, Gelid Tranquillo Rev 2, etc.
Double-check that you're getting the correct cooler for your socket.

Yeah, go try out Starfox Adventures and The Last Story. Both are pretty demanding.
