Back on topic, what I see is that it's not worth it to upgrade to an Ivy Bridge from, say, a core i5 2500k. So I'm expecting a huge improvement from my core i5 750.

So, which IB CPU are you looking at?
In general, both the 3570K and 3770K should almost be twice as fast.
