Let him believe that, beside if it work for him who are we to judge? just tell him outright if you believe his rig won't be any good for dolphin.
That zenbook looks nice, is it unibody? Also, I don't really need ultraportable since it usually sacrifice something. Any other aluminium unibody laptop out there?
For the record, and if you haven't pick the hint from all my post already, I hate, really really hate mac os x. I feel like crippled using that OS, and I was forced to use one for a month, that was annoying. I'd rather go back to linux and all its headache than feeling constrained like that again.

The zenbook has shit graphics cards.
Its a 2008 13" unibody one. a 9400m gt is decent for a 13 inch laptop in that price range.
OS X lion just came out and is really cool with the trackpad gestures. It feels way more organized and easier interface compared to windows 7 and I've used windows for years.
I use mac for music, music production and web browsing and it works for me. Its personal preference.

I did, twice.

Yes.

You lose some ports and don't have a built in CD drive (not really a problem in my eyes since everything is done off of flash drives or downloads these days). Everything else is on par with a 13" macbook pro (plus it has a 128GB SSD out of the box) for 1/3 less ($1100 instead of $1600). So is it really worth the extra $500 for the extra ports, CD drive, and macosx? I really don't think so myself.

A quick google search turned up the following:
-Dell Adamo (has very poor reviews)
-HP Envy
And this:

Also the Acer Aspire S3 seems to be another lineup of ultrabooks. You'll see each manufacturer begin to come out with their own line of ultrabooks over the coming year since Intel has pretty much declared it a new category now. And companies like to have products placed in as many niches as possible.
The Asus Zenbook is in a class of its own. Although I personally don't understand the appeal of laptops with an aluminum chassis. Most laptop manufacturers like to stay as far away from aluminum as possible for obvious reasons (it conducts electricity, requires decent thickness to become rigid, and is highly malleable making it not an ideal material to make a laptop chassis out of).
If you want somthing that's durable/reliable you can't go wrong with a thinkpad.

I went through the exact same thing. Now I'm going wwwaaayyyy off topic but since the OP already got his answer, what are you looking for in a laptop exactly?

Actually the IGP in the zenbook is several times as fast as your 9400m (about 3 times as fast by my estimates). It's an intel HD 3000 IGP which ranks inbetween a 9400GT and 9500GT, very close to a 9500GT (your GPU is substantially slower than a 9400GT).

In 2008 yes, but not by today's standards, the same goes for your cpu.
@nv
You're right, we're severly off topic, let's just leave it at that.

So to get back onto the main topic, i tried dolphin in both operating systems (version 3.0) and in windows 7, everything worked perfectly and im playing games like SSBB at full speed without a problem. In OS X Lion, everything works besides my xbox 360 controller, and there is a decrease in speed from the OpenGL graphics instead of the dx9 pluggin.
I'll stick to windows for my gaming. direct x > open gl
Dolphin has come far. I remember trying to run games when they didn't even have a direct x pluggin and was forced to play games at a lousy 20 or 30 fps or so with sketchy sound. Now theres wii support, 3d goodness, mac rev's and more.
Bravo devs go go go!

Not sure what that means. When I had Windows XP I had the same install with no issues for 5 years, then switched to Windows 7 and plan on keeping this for another 5. If you know what you're doing there is nothing to fix.

You'll notice that the openGL backend is a lot faster on macosx than it is on windows. My theory on why this is: openGL is mainly used for professional applications on windows (CAD, DCC, stuff like that) so windows drivers for nvidia/ati are probably geared towards optimizing for these kinds of applications, which inevitably reduces performance in applications like dolphin that don't need that level of accuracy. MACOSX on the other hand uses openGL for... well....everything, and macosx video drivers are no doubt made with that in mind. OpenGL runs even faster on linux, sometimes faster than d3d9 does in windows (linux has without doubt the best openGL video drivers, lightning fast and bugs are much rarer than on macosx or windows). So it's not necessarily openGL that's at fault but the combination of windows and openGL which makes it slow. Of course d3d9 on windows is still faster than openGL on macosx, although we're honestly not sure if that's the reason why windows builds are faster overall.
I must say I'm impressed with your ability to ignore these people.

Well windows 7 has more features. And with more features, there is bound to be more potential problems. For example: when i was switching between notebooks, windows 7 backup kept crashing and wouldn't work. I ended up using acronis backup because it wasn't worth my time fixing. Ive had other small things not work, some are easier fixes than others. Its just the nature of the beast i guess.
