There is this Castlevania on PC Engine (TurboGrafX).
A really good game. Released only in Japan.
When I was young Nec wasn't officially distributed. Specialized shops had to import consoles and games. A real curiosity at this time
Ah Symphony of the Night....or should I say Nocturne in The Moonlight. You guys are talking about the best game ever made in video game history.
But I prefer the Sega Saturn version over the PSX version mainly because of the extras it provides.
Some say it's an inferior version to the PSX version but I strongly disagree because they haven't played it on the SSF emulator with all the eye-candy on (Mesh translucent option) and sped up loading times which makes it just as good as the PSX version.
As for the PC-Engine Castlevania (Chi no Rondo) it's one of the most overrated games of all time in my book, but still one of the best and I love it

Oh wow. I didn't know about that version... I should look for it.
Does it have more items etc?
Hows the soundtrack quality? SotN has one of the best OSTs imo.
Are there any additional bosses and the like? I'd love to go through the game again for the sixth time or so; but this time with additional content.

The Sega Saturn version (Nocturne in the Moonlight - Gekka no Yasoukyoku) was released for Japanese audience only in 1998 and they wanted to please them with something extra.
However the game was ported rather then re-coded by KCEN (Konami Computer Entertainment Nagoya)
KCET Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo was the original masterminds behind Symphony of the Night so the Sega Saturn version was pretty bad by some.
It contains Maria as a playable character and she's super powerful.
All the characters can be played from start: Richter, Alucard and Maria
If you play either Richter or Maria, the Entrance music will be different.
In order to progress you have to fight Maria for the holy goggles instead of just given to you and this boss battle have a new cool song called Guardian.
There is new items, weapons etc. and also new enemies and bosses.
There is a skeleton clown bomber boss in the new area called Underground Garden and there is also a smaller area called The Cursed Prison, both with new music.
And there's a new relic which makes you run faster if you double tap.
All the other goodness is still intact and the music is as pimp as ever.
I highly recommend anyone loving Castlevania to get a hold of a copy of this version, once you play it on SSF you won't go back to the PSX version unless you have to hear and read the English dialog.

How about SSF? Has quality of the emulator been improved? I haven't used it for a long
Dang, thanks Maverick.
The PSX version, despite being amazing, did feel like something was off.
Hopefully the SS version will fill that gap.
The only problem will be the Japanese text.
So I take that there's no emulation issues with the game on SSF?
Yep the Sega Saturn version fills the gap alright in a literal sense because if you remember there was this stone slope in the Entrance in the PSX version that was closed, in the Sega Saturn version they opened it up and it's the path to Underground Garden.
The emulation with SSF (
http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~phantasy/ssf/ ) is kick-ass, and Dracula X plays beautifully here.
The quality is top notch, the game have been pretty much flawless since 2006 when I started using SSF.
You're referring to this correct?
Damn that sounds like a new adventure.
Guess I'll have to learn Japanese too.
Yes that's exactly what I'm talking about right there. If you glitch your way under that in the PSX version by doing the duplicate Heart Refresh jump, all you find is a partial path to a glitched save room and that's pretty much it.
And I agree it's pretty much a new adventure but don't worry, if you played the PSX version to death you'll have no problem with the Japanese dialog, you'll appreciate it more in fact since the voice acting is way better.
I like this reply:
The Death : "Alucard, what is your business here?"
Alucard : "I've come to put an end to this"
