Quote:My personal opinion is that LoZ:LttP is a bit overrated. My sister and I love playing Zelda games together; sometimes I'll be Link, sometimes she'll be Link. I bought here the GBA port a while ago for her birthday, and we decided to play it on our GameBoy Player on the GC. Didn't go so well; neither of us enjoyed it too much.
Quote:Some of this might be due to the fact that we never played LoZ:LttP on the SNES in the first place, but we play MM as kids all the time. I still prefer other 2D Zelda games (namely the first LoZ on the NES, and LoZ: Link's Awakening on the GB) of LttP.

It is overrated. It's good but not great. Modern 2D zeldas are way better (oracle of ages, oracle of seasons, four sword adventures, the minish cap). I can't comment on Link's Awakening since I never got around to playing it. But I LOVE the other 2D zeldas.

Quote:Majora's Mask, oth, has been a blast.

Yes it is. It is not a game, it is a psychological experience without the drugs Tongue

Yes, I very much agree Big Grin It was pretty intense when I played it when I was 12, still is now. I don't particularly like Zelda theories (except to laugh at most) but some of the ones regarding MM have revealed to me that it's much darker and complex (and disturbing) than I first realized. It's a trip, to say the least.

So close to Halloween, it's the perfect time to play some this game again, in HD no less.

I think Minish Cap is the best 2d Zelda, and Skyward Sword the best 3d Zelda. Majora's Mask has the best music IMO, followed closely by LttP. LttP isn't actually that great as a game, by the theme of the music and just everything about the music is great.

Majora's Mask is freaky. Especially when you consider the main mechanic of the game is turning the souls of the restless dead into masks to finally allow them to die.
The oracle games and four sword adventures (which is technically a 2D/3D hybrid but the mechanics are the same as a 2D zelda game so I count it as a 2D game) are both better than minish cap in my opinion. Out of the three I'm not sure which one I would put at the top if I were ranking them.

As far as 3D titles go nothing will ever match ocarina of time for me.
Ocarina of Time was a very good game, but the battle system isn't as good as Skyward Sword's IMO. I like how every battle is a puzzle in SS, while in OOT I t can turn into a b-button mash fest (preceded by a stun or something).
*caring about combat in a zelda game

And this is why your opinions are invalid. Zelda has never been about the combat.
Zelda has been about the puzzles and te adventure. In SS, the battles become puzzles. In OOT, they are just battles. That is my point.

-atmosphere (any zelda without amazing environments and music is automatically bad by my standards)
-a compelling story with a decent villain (for the love of god nintendo stop reusing ganandorg/ganon)
-interesting characters
-solid rpg elements
-good level/dungeon design and layout
-interesting side quests
-an overall sense of interconnectedness in the world

Off the top of my head those are the cornerstones of zelda that I can think of. Having to use specific methods to kill enemies doesn't really make up for any of that stuff. I haven't gotten very far in SS but so far I've been fairly disappointed in it.
How could you not list puzzles as a cornerstone of Zelda? That has been there since the beginning of the franchise.
