hey guys! so yes im new here Tongue i was hoping for some info on the speed of my emu, not too long ago i got dolphin up and running and it worked like magic! the speed was great and everything, games like "Soul Caliber II" ran smooth and fine. then not too long ago my cpu suddenly hinged Sad idk what caused it but now not only do my dolphin games run slow and choppy (speed up slow down type of stuff) but all of my games do! Angry and it isnt my cpu performance because everything else runs fine =( anyways ive searched forums done scans cleaned my laptop and even defraged it to no avail =( any help or info is very much thanked =)
also because my last thread was closed due to not having enough info (i.e not meeting the specs of the admins witch idk why they dont give them to you when you join but whatever)

my laptop specs are.

anyways the game im trying to run smoothly is sonic adventure 2 battle.
thanks for your help =)
Your laptop is weak so don't expect too much. You should use 3.0 first. Which revision did you use before and which one do you use now?

1. When you are saying everything else runs fine, does that include PC games? Because it seems like a temperature problem to me, but that would be noticable in other games as well.

2. Also did you change anything about Dolphin between the "running super" and the "slow" phase? Maybe upgraded to a newer version, or changed the configuration? Older revisions (than 3.0) seem to be faster in some cases, but also cause more problems.

3. Check the performance guide on the wiki for optimal performance setting: Perormance Guide
but also don't forget that some games need special settings to run without issues, check the wikipage for the game, e.g. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle: Wikipage

4.

ive got the same problem, im using version 3.0 and on various games it suddenly goes from 30 fps to 12, then back to 30, then down to 10, and so on in the space of a few seconds. my computer is an alienware m17x, processor intel i7-2630QM cpu @ 2.00 ghz with 4 g of ram. my vid card is an nvidia ge force 460m and a windows 7 home premium OS. i run the emulator with no programs running in the background, and it still does this. ive tried varying the settings according to the guides ive found but it deosnt solve the problem, just how bad it slows down (from kind of tolerable to molasses running uphill) and for how long.
and ive had absolutely no problems running other games from Grim Fandango to Skyrim.

Running games on Dolphin is not the same as playing PC games. PC games rely a lot on the GPU for performance. Dolphin tends to rely more on the CPU, but the GPU is important to handle things like internal resolutions. They're different programs, so they use hardware resources differently. It doesn't matter if you can play Skyrim or any other PC game at the max settings; it's not going to be entirely comparable to Dolphin's emulation.

You haven't said what games you're try to play, but your CPU is rather weak for Dolphin. It doesn't matter that you have a Core i7; Dolphin usually only uses 2 cores at a time, and yours are clocked at 2.0Ghz. Unless you OC (not recommended, looks like you're on a laptop) or get a better CPU, there probably isn't much you can do. Well, you could try your luck with older revisions, but obviously you might encounter issues that have since been solved.

Sounds like your system is overheating. Check your temperatures.

@dolphinspeed20

Both your cpu and gpu are far too weak to get decent performance with dolphin, you need a better computer.
