That's what I wanted to know...so why people in this thread claim that it would fix the problem. I5 2500k @4.5 surely is more than enough horsepower. So the problem isn't the system maybe, it's the emulation
Could you do me a favor? could you check which framerate you get on the second galaxy, the second star mission? The second one actually is the third one from the left...the third floating island. Hope you get what I mean. I'm between 52 and 60 in this stage...
I certainly can but it may take a while as I don't have a save for MG2 at the moment. I'll play up to that galaxy and let you know. I know for certain that when I use LLE it does cause slowdowns which aren't present using HLE.
I have been baffled by people claiming to get perfect emulation on both Galaxy games with sandy bridge CPUs because I just wasn't seeing it, and I have seen quite a few people post that they are getting full speed with LLE 100% of the time.
There's always the chance I've got something wrong in my settings of course, although I've tried everything I can think of and it's made no difference. I'm using Dolphin 3.0 64-bit by the way.
Hm, with HLE I get framerate dips in this galaxy as well...so...it's just a tad better.
Right, I've tested that level - just to confirm, it's the one called "silver stars deep down" or something along those lines? My frame rate was usually a constant 60 fps although I had dips to 55 when using the slingshot stars, when the frame rate dipped the audio crackled too.
Having said that this level seems to run better than the majority, I assume because it's smaller. I had a lot of slowdown and audio problems on the first 2 galaxies.
If I've got the wrong mission by the way please let me know and I'll try others!
No problem. I've just tested that stage!
I had a fairly constant 60fps with slowdowns at the volcano and during the boss. I had sudden drops from 60 - 55 lasting a second or two. I think the fact that the audio skips/crackles makes it seem much worse than it actually is because I can't really complain about a 5 fps drop - if it wasn't for the audio I probably wouldn't notice it at all.
I've had a look at my settings again and I've changed a few things that seemed to make the game run much smoother. I've turned off frame limit (previously auto) and enabled the Audio Throttle, I also enabled run LLE on thread although I'm not sure if that's had any effect. I'm going to disable it and run the same level through again see if it changes anything.
I'll post back once I'm done, not a very busy evening for me as you can probably tell so if there's any more testing I can do let me know.
Am I the only one that considers raising the turbo multiplier a form of overclocking?
Saying that an i5 2400 cannot be overclocked is just flat out wrong. Sure it doesn't have unlocked multipliers (except for the turbo multiplier) but neither did core 2 duo/quad. There are other ways to overclock, the base clock for example can still be raised (I'm not saying that's a very good idea though).

I'll test those settings, thank you! That stage wasn't smooth for me at all, in the beginning sequence (just after Mario lands) it goes down to around 55. 50 till 52 is the lowest.
And yes, you are absolutely right. It's just so noticable because the audio slows down as well. Otherwise it would be perfect.
Maybe it's a good idea to play the stage and let the OST run next to it? ;D
So, settings didni't help that much. I even have problems to get the performace I had yesterday, don't ask me why. Goes down to high 40s. in this stage. Without LLE it's about 4 to 6 frames better. I guess I'll be better ofg with a i5 2500k anyway, even if it's not perfect then...
I didn't find much difference between LLE locked to thread and default. I think we'll just have to wait for the LLE to get optimized or something before it will play perfectly. Im well into Mario Galaxy 2 again now though, Cosmic Cove here I come!

Good luck waiting for that to happen. Not much more can be done to optimize it.
It's a pity.
BTW, if that's a indicator, I just tried TP Wii and it runs very smooth so far, only small htiches and drops to 29 or 28 so far, but 96% of the time it's smooth. If that's any indicator for performanceh...just the Map is a bit weird. It's like..almost invisible. I don't remember it being like that on the Wii?
I'll go for the i5 2500k anyway...so what.

You can buy a Wii for the price of the upgrade (doesn't worth it).
