Quote:In reality what sort of performace SHOULD I be looking at with my specs!? I can run Resi 4, Resi Evil Remake Wii versions at high-ish res more or less 60fps. However some of the lower end GC games - Double Dash for example fluctuates between 52-60.

Games like Jungle Beat run at around 40-45fps as does Mario Kart Wii. Perhaps with my setup this is what I should expect? Or should I be getting more?

Wait a second....that's not low. When you said games were running slowly we though you meant maybe 15-40 fps, that would be low.

Yeah, originally Luigi's Mansion and Double Dash etc. were going mad an jumping from 2fps - 40fps, oddly it now seems to have levelled off.

Prime on the GC jumps between 40-60fps, Double Dash is almost 60fps etc. so it seems to have stopped being incredibly slow - very strange indeed.

Mario Kart Wii - runs at about 45fps, is this normal for a 3.2ghz laptop?

It seems to work better when I set the internal res. to the desktop res, which is: 1366x768
Oddly it actually ran better when my laptop was hooked up to the LCD via HDMI - very strange.
Those are normal speeds for your hardware.

That's not internal resolution that's external resolution. Internal resolution is set to auto by default.

Great- I reallt appreciate all the help mate. It was going crazy at the start - I did install a few Windows updates so perhaps that was somethign to di with it?

One last question, the fellow I got my laptop off said if I was having issues he could exchange it for the following:

Inspiron N5110
Display: 15.6in High Definition (720p) LED Display with TrueLife
Optical Drive
6 Cell Primary Battery, 48W
Processor : i7-2630QM 2.9GHz Quad Core (this is boosted speed I believe)
Wireless: Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 (1x2 b/g/n+ Bluetooth Combo Card)
640GB Hard Drive
8 GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHZ (2 DIMMs)
Black
Graphics : 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M Graphics card
Power Supply: 130W AC Adapter
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64 BIT)

Wondered I would get any significant speed boost with this set-up? The CPU is obviously slower, but it's a quad-core (although understand that doesn't make a difference) but has a slightly better dedicatd GPU.
Thanks as ever Smile
It would help if I had the specs of your current laptop....

Sorry mate, full specs are on the page before of mt current laptop its a vostro 3450 i7 at 2.7, but as I say if you wouldn't mind looking at my specs a page back thatd be great as Id like to know of you think the i5 may perform better? Cheers
They would offer nearly identical performance + or - maybe 2%.

Thanks mate, even with the quadcore having a slower cpu, it would keep pace with the slightly higher dual core?
Yes. Quad core offers a very slight benefit from background tasks running on separate cores and the clock rate difference between them is very small.
Ok great - thanks for all the advice! Might be investing in a desktop as well in that case ;-)
