Can you post screenshots of all of your settings?

If you can raise the internal resolution to 2x or 3x and not see a significant reduction in performance than your discrete gpu is being used, not the intel integrated gpu.

Can you list the rest of your laptop specs?

Sure full spec is:
Dell Vostro 3450
Processor : One Intel Core i7-2620M (2.70GHz, 4MB cache, Dual Core - Turbo Boost to 3.4ghz)
8 DVD+/-RW DRIVE
Wireless: Dell Wireless 1702 (802.11b/g/n) + Bluetooth v3.0
LCD Back Cover : Silver WLAN
English Windows 7 Professional (32 BIT/64 BIT) COA
6 Cell Primary Battery, 48W
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6630M 1 GB Graphics
8 GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHZ (2 DIMMs)
Display: 14.0in High Definition LED Display (1366X768) with anti-glare
500 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)

Not at the laptop at the mo, but off the top of my head (reverted back to Build 3.0 as seems better rather than newest revision)
Backend - Direct3D9
Vsync - Off
Fullscreen res - 1280x720
Fog disabled
EBF Copies - Texture
Internal Res. either auto or 2x - seems to run pretty much the same with either

Will try and get some shots later - but that's pretty much it I think.

Try installing latest AMD graphic driver and Intel HD

Have done exactly that just now - seems to make no difference. I really have no idea whether Dolphin is using the Radeon or not, but it still says intel hd family under display adapter.

Try lowering your IR to 1x and turn off SSAA and pixel lighting. Tell me if that improves your performance (if it does than dolphin is probably using the IGP).

Yeah that seems too - so is it safe to assume it's not using the Radeon?

I think I may just take it back for a return to be honest - been mucking about with it for almost 24 hours straight.

EDIT: Ok did a test disabled Intel HD Graphics family in the device manager and the screen dropped resolution and clearly went to some sort of onboard (read:naff) grahpics mode.

Did the same test with the Radeon and the same thing happened !? Does this mean both are connected and the Radeon IS working?

I also noticed massive improvements in Dolphin if I default straight to fullscreen - any idea why that would be?
Quote:You should be able to find a PC game benchmark that displays what hardware was used at the end of the test, if it says the Radeon then you know that I'm right.

I disagree. Just because PC games use the 6630M does not guarantee dolphin will. Dolphin may not generate enough shader load for it to make the switch or it may be a software issue.

I'm out of ideas though. It seems like it is not using the discrete gpu for dolphin but I have no idea why.

Cheers guys for all the help it seems to be using the Radeon in the PCSX2 emu - well I can get a similar performance to what I was on my Imac! Okami and most others at 720/1080p 60fps.

I've has an offe from guy I bought it from to trade it for a 2.3ghz Quad Core laptop with a NVIDIA 525M 1BG - would this show any improvement??

In reality what sort of performace SHOULD I be looking at with my specs!? I can run Resi 4, Resi Evil Remake Wii versions at high-ish res more or less 60fps. However some of the lower end GC games - Double Dash for example fluctuates between 52-60.

Games like Jungle Beat run at around 40-45fps as does Mario Kart Wii. Perhaps with my setup this is what I should expect? Or should I be getting more?

Wait a second....that's not low. When you said games were running slowly we though you meant maybe 15-40 fps, that would be low.
