I take that you play it on the 2nd rig of yours right Taco? What GPU?
Yes the GUI is really terrible. It doesn't even work properly and bugs a lot. I hope some modders(yes, it's up to the modders again to fix Bethesda's lazyness) will fix this atrocity.
The shadows are being rendered on the CPU instead of the GPU, which is why they're ugly and FPS eaters.
The shadows that move are the ones that change by the suns position. It moves every few seconds, it's normal... the consoles couldn't handle the proper movement.
And its a shame they haven't fixed it for the PC.
The graphics are really an improvement over Oblivion, it depends on the weather and atmosphere. So far what I've seen its beautiful.

ofc second rig, my P4 can't handle that

a 8800 GS is what i have and im starting to think its actually lack of enough ram locking it to 30fps unless i turn everything down to min. i have 2GB and its swapping 1.70GB ( long live virtual memory

) + my cpu usage doesn't go higher then 60/70 and the gpu usage is also around 80

and sure the shadows move but the jumping is something else and if they jump back its not the sun. i wanted to disabled them (i always do in games) but i can't. sad
ill prob get some more ram and then well see XD

Where is the story?
Graphics are nice, where is character design and depth?
Where is the catchy, memorable music?
Do we learn anything valuable from the game?
Nice attempt from the West, something else than FPS.
Not interested in this game.

What on earth do you mean by that? How are they rendered? I've never heard of a modern game doing shadow rendering without d3d/openGL. And why on earth would that reduce quality? The quality it based on the algorithm not the hardware.

I'm not at all impressed with what I've seen so far. The mesh quality, texture quality, specular lighting, bloom shader, shadow quality, and post-processing effects are all terrible and reek of consolitis.
But I will admit two things. It is a huge step up from oblivion despite these flaws. And it does give an amazing sense of scope on max settings. The fact that the distant mountains and terrain have such a high level of detail on max settings makes you really feel like you're in a vast open world.

My system has 4GB of ram running win 7 x64. Task manager shows the game using 900MB of ram running on ultra settings, total ram usage is around 1.6GB including win 7. Are you sure you don't have vsync enabled? Make sure you change the file in my documents not the one in the game directory.

I'm not having any problems with the shadows other than the usual blockiness that console ports have.

Why does that make a game bad?
Quote:Where is the story?
Everywhere.

Everywhere. The graphics are pretty much the only problem I have with this game.

Everywhere.

No, it's not an educational game. Games aren't meant to teach, they're meant to be fun.

vsync is disabled (duh) , i know it is by looking at the ground.
why im saying this is cause 1.7GB on page swapping for 1 application will slow it down alot
and the processing %(60-80 for both) usage of my cpu/gpu makes me believe i could get a few more fps out of them before i reach the limit (like, maybe , 10fps more or so. but 40fps is alot better then 30...) if i could remove w/e is causing it to slow down
ANOTHER reason im sure its ram is cause starting from mid to ultra settings nothing changes in fps (except if i put shadows on high, then its like 5fps but fuck shadows ) so ye; gpu would slow down with every setting i go up then; but it doesn't.
EDIT: o and dont forget i only have 2GB ram, in which 1.3GB is needed by skyrim
Well, they're not my words actually, just quoted what the fans have gathered. But it would make sense, people claim that their GPU usage is too low etc.

Lol such hard judgement. Compared to their previous games, it's a reaaaal improvement. (Even the textures). And yes, I agree that the textures are crappy (some are really detailed, while most are crappy). The rest is fine. I like the post-processing effects.
Yeah... since it's not (entirely)optimized for the PC, I'm playing it at nearly max settings. I have 'Distant Object Detail' on High and Shadows aswell (Ultra just eats more FPS w/o delivering anything).
I'm also a little upset by the lack of options for tweaking. The .ini files are full of useful settings yet none of them can be changed from the game. The normal maps are much better than oblivion but the specular maps and post-processing effects are wwaaaayyyy overdone. Mesh quality is about the same maybe slightly better. I just wish I could tweak it to get it to look the way I like.
Yeah, agreed. I wish the options at its very least could be changed from within the game, it's a shame it isn't there...
I guess to each their own, I find them used pretty good actually. The bloom kicks in @ snowy places and the blurs when you get hit by stuff.
I think you can disable them if you really want to.
The mesh quality is definitely improved. Open up Oblivion, close it, then open up Skyrim. You'll see.
The races actually look like they should, and even got a rehash.
You mean the settings or actual models and stuff? The creation kit will hopefully get released soon for modders to feast on.
Oh... I also heard Bethesda will release a Hi-Res pack for Skyrim. Not 100% sure myself.

If they don't the modders will.
