So.. I got Skyrim around yesterday...

Just played the first 30 minutes. It was pretty awesome actually, much better than Oblivion :p.
Anyway, I put my settings on the maximum settings possible (which I shouldn't have done), and it was pretty stuttery etc, drops in FPS every few seconds for no reason. Turning will lag alot, effects will lower fps to the x range.
So everyone with a GPU equivelant (or less) than mine, DON'T TICK EVERYBOX AND PUT IT ON THE MAXIMUM!
Use HIGH, but adjust textures, shadows etc to your liking. You will get around 60fps, and sometimes go around the 5x range.

Anyway, I took some screenshots of the maximum settings possible and high, oh what the heck, I'll post screenshots of all settings so you can compare them.

Where did you get that information?
I'm sure Skyrim will come out in a retail package aswell.

Anyway, looks like someone is selling the retail PC version at a decent price here Tongue

The sad part is that even if it's retail and on DVD, it's gonna be Steam anyway.
Fallout: New Vegas, Duke Nukem Forever just to name a few examples was released retail on discs. Though I wasn't surprised I sure was pissed about it when Steam came up.

However now months later it's no big deal.
I have updated both games and can easily restore them.

But why make games on disc if you can't install them right away.

Skyrim looks good but I've had my share of PC games for a while. I might consider it for the PS3 though, thank god no Steam there.
What do you mean Gabriel? You mean you prefer Steam over the retail boxes?
If a game is out for the consoles and PC, I'd rather play it on the PC.
I would recommend you to get it for your PC, you have a killer rig and should run it great.
More importantly, MOD SUPPORT.

The PS3 won't do it any justice.
But to each their own.

Anyway, I took the screenies, they're from the first area (which everyone has seen in the gameplay at e3)
I didn't take any -spectacular- screenies, because I just started, and I don't want to spoil stuff for people.

Anyway, here are the settings comparison:
Keep in mind that all except for the maximum settings possible are simply the presets the game gave w/o configuration.

Low(my FPS: 60):

Medium(my FPS: 60):

High(my FPS: 60):

When I bought Fallout: New Vegas and Duke Nukem Forever, I bought the retail disc versions.
What I didn't know since I pre-ordered them online was that they were Steam versions, meaning no way to just install and play immediately like older games used to.

When I got the games and popped them into the drive it was like first Install Steam, then update Steam, update again, install the game, install updates for the game then after a long wait I finally could enjoy playing the game.

I miss the days when you bought PC games and just installed them and played them straight off the box.

What- seriously?! That's messed up man, and with that I wholeheartly agree.
There is no reason to force people to use third-party software to play a game.
Retail games should stay retail.

Did the discs only have Steam on it, and some sort of code for you to download the game?

I also have a friend who bought Battlefield for the PC and got a disc that ONLY had Origin on it.
No no nothing like that, the discs had the games on them but you need the Steam application to install them from the disc.
If the discs only had the Steam application and some sort of download code that would be a complete waste not to mention annoying since high-speed connection is out of the question for me.

It seems to be more and more common these days and you're lucky if you even find a game you like and can install it directly.
Ah, was just going with the worst-case scenario. Let's hope it will never happen again.

Anyway, I did some tweaking to the Skyrim, disabling vsync and crappy mouse acceleration, oh, and I forget I had AA and AF forced in CCC which I disabled.
And I get around 75~100+ fps in Skyrim, with my custom settings ofcourse. Which is more than the Ultra preset, but not everything ticked etc.

Edit: Having everything ticked is actually playable now! So override the previous statement I made. 6870 is enough to run this maxed (running at 60fps-ish). But I would not recommend it though, I think cities will produce some lags. So play around with the settings.
im actually tempted to get this game to see how well my rig would pull off Tongue
It scales very well. If you can run New Vegas comfortably you can run Skyrim.

30fps outdoors, 50-60 indoors with a i5, 4GB, HD 4570m @ High settings and 720p.

I'm both happy and disappointed. Happy it is playable but disappointed there really isn't much technological progress here from 5 years ago. If you can run other 360 ports you can run this.
After looking at some videos, this game reminds me a lot of the Fallout games, Ill find out exactly how much very soon.
