I bought an LG 8163b drive recently (through Power Optical 3rd party seller at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B...ition=used) to rip my games for Dolphin, and I thought it'd be more convenient to have it be external and bought this product right here:

I got it today and tested it with the drive and whenever I plug it in, it tells me the drivers unsuccessfully installed. I troubleshoot the device and it suggests re-installing the drivers, so I click to do that and it says that it successfully installs this time. But whenever I enter any sort of disk (Wii, DVD, CD) it tells me that the disk needs to be formatted. If I unplug and put it back in, it says the drivers aren't installed correctly again.

In Rawdump the drive isn't in the list. In Friidump if I tell it to rip the disk in drive E: it says unsupported disk drive was detected (which it shouldn't! Tongue) and gets stuck on "Retrieving disk seeds, this may take a while..." until it eventually fails.

This looks to me like it's probably an issue with the adapter, but I wanted to make sure before I installed the drive in the computer directly. Is it an issue with the drive or the adapter?

Oh, and let's make this fun. POLL~! Big Grin
I'd say it's the adapters fault :p
Well, we opened the computer up and it turns out we don't have a place for IDE at all, only SATA. Is there any way we can connect the drive to a computer that only has SATA on the motherboard?

check your jumpers. Set to master or use no jumpers.

Syba makes an adapter that plugs into the back of the drive $10.00 (sata to ide adapter)

Is that drive one of the compatible drives for rawdump?
