I'm new to Dolphin emulation. When I first downloaded a week or so ago, I seemed to do pretty well (was able to play New Super Mario at 100%). Now all I get is lag no matter what settings...
Is my system decent enough for emulation? I've optimized power settings for performance and have my BIOS set to discrete graphics only.
Your system is good enough . Run dolphin and "realtemp" at the same time . If the thermal status change from "ok" to "log" then your CPU is overheating
Thank you so much for your advice... I'm not sure why, but after I DL'd RealTemp and Prime 95, executed those 2 tests, and then executed dolphin I needed to frame-limit on 3x render- it was killing the emulation at 1080p. It's running at 250-300% right now on new super mario bros!!! (I'll audio throttle when I have things squared away, so that it runs properly).
I had tried to adjust my ThinkVantage power settings to leave my graphics process alone, and I can't find any Intel processes that are managing the CPU or cores- I'm starting to think my system needed a break in so that it would realize it's potential. Maybe when I re calibrated my TJMax on RealTemp?
Anyways, thanks so much again; this is the type of performance I expected from this system when I purchased it. But I'm totally confused about what's causing the throttling that stops when realtemp is running?
Hmmm... it says an integrated video card will not run dolphin, but mine runs it fine, albeit on low settings

I depends on the card. Old ones won't run at all on newer revisions, but new card like yours run OK at 1x
Hello!
Thanks so much for this thread.
I was wondering how well my computer could run Wii games (namely Skyward Sword).
Processor: AMD Phenom II X3 (Triple Core) 2.6 GHz
Video Card: Radeon 4850 (
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102824)
RAM: 8GB DDR2
Motherboard: Some decent GIGABYTE one
Also, which would be more important to upgrade? The video card or the processor?
Probably the processor, to an intel one and with that you'll probably get around 50% speed in skyward sword because its an amd and only 2.6 Ghz
For an AMD GPU
Whats the minimum you guys recommend? Because Theres only like a handful(if that) that I can play on my 6450 >> that wont slow down etc
EDIT: I think I may go for the 6670 since I dont really need a second monitor etc, plus I need a pci e connector cable for the 6750
and in test results, the 6750 is not that much off of the 6670.
Just use DX9, 1x IR, efb to texture and no AA. If the game is slow after that, your CPU is not fast enough to run it.

My CPU is fine, I am pretty sure its the GPU.
Its no where near highend, and actually its a
very low end card.
