Haha agreed, I'm impressed. Very nice thread.

Year old post >.>

It's an ongoing thread that is still active so I see nothing wrong with it.

MAX

Hello, im new on forum but i have been using Dolphin for a while ago.
Im using Pentium 4 EE 3.2Ghz /Win XP 32 Bit /2GB RAM/ Nvidia Geforce6200 256 RAM. One of games i can run almost at full speed (50FPS) was Digimon Rumble Arena 2 with a some slowdowns on many large maps or when having 4 players on screen. but other games as SSBM, Tales of Symphonia hardly run at more than 50% Speed. (Yes, i used pal versions so i can save 10FPS)
I noticed gradually slowdown as more players/character are on screen, if the map is very simple (Like Yoshi from N64) having 2 Players i can get up to 90% of Speed. The sames goes for TOS.
Playing with differents Resolutions barely wont change anything i start to get lower fps when setting to 4x IR. So looks like all is based on the CPU Power ?
To retrieve this now i have upgraded MY GRAPHICS CARD to a ATI HD 4670- 1GB RAM. To my surprise, sadly and just as spected. I haven´t noticed any improvement on game speed.
In my statistics i get the CPU load at +90%, while the GPU barely reaches the 10% in short instances. Isn´t clear the bottleneck here?
Now you all know how Dolphin works. Would be any way to give the load to the GPU instead the CPU? IT ALMOST DOESNT USE GPU!

Hope my little review helps you Smile

You're expected to figure out that Dolphin needs a pretty powerful CPU to handle Dolphin on your own; if you come around and create a thread asking if your Pentium 4 will handle Super Mario Galaxy, your thread will be merciless closed.
Pentium 4 , Pentium D , Athlon 64 are horrible
NV, you currently have the 550 Ti under both 2x and 4x.

This depends a lot on which revision you use. If you use pre-784, 2x. 784 and onward is 3x (mostly 4x). That is how ridiculous the speed up from that commit is.

That's because at the time that I wrote this it was the lowest card in the 500 series other than the GT 520 (which can barely handle 1x/1.5x IR). The GT 545 eventually came out but benchmark sites didn't review it, retailers didn't sell it, and consumers didn't buy it so it might as well not exist (not to mention we don't have any dolphin users with one).

That doesn't matter. The only hard data I have to go on at the moment is the year old GPU benchmark. So I have to base my list on that.
GPU benchmarks are very difficult in Dolphin since the CPU is almost always the bottleneck. Where is this benchmark? What game does it run?

I could run it on mine to show you.
Some backstory for Axxer:

Link_to_the_past was once an active forum member who compiled his own builds, helped answer user questions on both googlecode and the forums, created community events such as that benchmarks, was an active developer for dolphin, and so on (for many years I might add). He was a great guy and a terrific contributor to the community. He started an excellent GPU benchmark after mine utterly failed to take off. He provided all of the data in neatly compiled excel spreadsheets, lists, and graphs. This was when I started making my video card requirements thread using the data.

The details are a little fuzzy in my memories since it was so long ago but one of his commits reverted by another developer and he completely lost his mind and went apeshit. He demanded that all of his contributions to the dolphin project (all of his commits) be reverted (since he felt that he "owned them") and tried to remove the data from his GPU thread (once again claiming that he owned it). He also removed his builds. Luckily SS was fast enough to put a stop to it and restored the thread (at least partially) and close it. I believe he also gave him a temporary ban. His commit rights were taken away and he told us we would never see him again because he wanted nothing to do with this project. And we haven't seen him since.

It didn't affect me much because I had already pretty much finished the thread by the time this happened.
