Welcome to linux!
Seriously though I gave up getting software with the same level of quality as commercial windows apps on linux a long time ago.
Here, have a video to cheer you up:

Also I would get the tux myself and try it out on linux but downloading a 14GB game on my 1-2 mb/s connection would take an eternity.

You can copy the game files from windows, then it only needs to download the Linux Source Binarys. (That's what I did)
It's not worth the wait anyways, Valve said it's awesome and all that but the game's performance doesn't even come near the Windows version.
Did anyone else get a 125 MB update today with no changelog?
My TF2 Beta wanted to do an update, now it looks like it's downloading all half life 2 packets in vpk files.
WTF is going on?
Is Valve working on optimizing TF2?
Nah i found out what it was, looks like Valve are pushing TF2 to SteamPipe.
Faster loading times herer we go

Plus no more infinite verification of TF2 cache files issue. That alone will make this change worth it since atm if I shut down Steam or reboot my system I have to wait five minutes before I can play TF2.
^Same. Oh god it's so annoying.
