(09-03-2012, 09:01 AM)NaturalViolence Wrote: [ -> ]So guys, what are your "go to" setups?

Mine:

Scout
Entirely situational, I use every primary except the force-a-nature, shortstop for big open areas, scattergun or soda-popper for close quarters, baby face's blaster for spam, soda-popper is only useful on defense teams
Entirely situational, crit-a-cola goes well with the baby face's blaster, bonk atomic punch mad milk and pretty boy's pocket pistol go well with everything else, bonk atomic punch is only useful on offense teams
Candy cane

Soldier
Direct Hit
Reserve shooter
Escape Plan

Pyro
Backburner
Depends on the map, reserve shooter for close quarters, manmelter or scorch shot for big open areas
Backscratcher

Demoman
Grenade launcher
Stickybomb launcher
Whiskey bottle

Demoknight
Bootlegger
Chargin targin or Splendid screen (depends on what classes the other team is using)
Scotsman's Skull Crusher

Heavy
Tomislav
Sandvich
Gloves of running urgently

Engineer
Frontiers justice, except for defense when I use the pomson 6000
Wrangler
Gunslinger, except for defense when I use the jag

Medic
Crusaders Crossbow
Medigun
Vita-saw

Sniper
Huntsman
Jarate
Bushwacka

Spy
I almost never play spy so I don't have strong opinions about my build, I do always use the red tape recorder though

For me it depends but I usually try to stick with some stock weapons. Here's my usual loadout:

Scout:

Scattergun or Soda Popper.
Bonk, Mad Milk.
Sandman or Holy Mackerel

Soldier:

Stock Rocket Launcher
Buff Banner
Market Gardner or Escape Plan

Pyro:

Stock Flame Thrower
Flare Gun
Homewrecker

Heavy:

Stock Minigun
Sandvich or Family Business/Shotgun
Holiday Punch or GRU

Demoman:

Stock Grenade Launcher
Stock Stickybomb Launcher or Charge n' Targe
Ullapool Caber or Eyelander

Engineer:

Wrench
Frontier Justice
Pistol

Medic:

Stock Medigun
Overdose
Ubersaw

Sniper:

Stock Sniper Rifle
Jarate
Tribalmans Shiv

Spy:

Your Eternal Reward or Stock Knife
Dead Ringer or Invisibility Watch
L'etranger
Familiar Fez

Like you, my loadout is situational.

Last night I did my best ever with Pyro. I was reflecting nade's and rockets left and right, I really surprised myself with how well I did because my reflect skills usually aren't that good. I even reflected Direct Hit and Liberty Launcher rockets. Due to my teamwork by extinguishing burning teammates I scored my best ever as Pyro.

I was going to post explanations for why I picked those loadouts but I got lazy near the end of my post. So instead I'll criticize your decisions Tongue.

Quote:Scout:

Scattergun or Soda Popper.
Bonk, Mad Milk.
Sandman or Holy Mackerel

Primary and secondary are fine. But your melee choice makes no sense. Even with good aim the sandman hits your target maybe once out of every 5 times. And the -15 health penalty really hurts you. There are much better choices than the holy macherel as well.

Quote:Soldier:

Stock Rocket Launcher
Buff Banner
Market Gardner or Escape Plan

I tried using the buff banner as a secondary for quite a while. It's just too damn hard to fill and when you're leading a charge you tend to die within 4 seconds.

Quote:Pyro:

Stock Flame Thrower
Flare Gun
Homewrecker

Fair enough. I can see how all of these could be useful.

Quote:Heavy:

Stock Minigun
Sandvich or Family Business/Shotgun
Holiday Punch or GRU

Why holiday punch?
Why family business/shotgun? Especially family business. The family business is just flat out mathematically inferior to the default shotgun, there is no justification for using it besides the cool factor.

Quote:Demoman:

Stock Grenade Launcher
Stock Stickybomb Launcher or Charge n' Targe
Ullapool Caber or Eyelander

Fair enough. I can see how all of these could be useful.

Quote:Engineer:

Wrench
Frontier Justice
Pistol

Why the pistol? When do you ever use it?
Why the wrench? The jag boosts construction speed which is more important than melee damage.

Quote:Medic:

Stock Medigun
Overdose
Ubersaw

I prefer the vita-saw personally because I find that you are generally more likely to reach 100% ubercharge with it. A medic should never be using their melee weapon so that makes the ubersaws ability pretty useless unless you're playing as a combat medic, which you shouldn't be.

Quote:Sniper:

Stock Sniper Rifle
Jarate
Tribalmans Shiv

Fair enough. I can see how all of these could be useful.

Quote:Spy:

Your Eternal Reward or Stock Knife
Dead Ringer or Invisibility Watch
L'etranger
Familiar Fez

The eternal reward is ridiculously hard to use effectively. Other than that fine choices.

The recent buff has made pyros a bit too powerful in my opinion (in case you didn't know they recently increased the damage of most flamethrowers by 10% as well as some other buffs). I've noticed I'm ridiculously successful with them now and they seem to be a lot more popular now. I consistently get a spot in the top three (there is a word for that, I can't remember what it is) whenever I play pyro.

Regarding the Sandman, as long as you can connect the shot, nothing is more fun than beating or pumping your opponent full of pellets.

Shoot, go for cover, rinse and repeat. The reward of crits pays off in the end just as long as you can avoid taking damage and dying.

Holiday Punch because it is fun playing fat spy or forcing your victim to laugh on crit so you can pootis-pow them. No particular reason for the Family Business/Shotgun other than I like to try using something else once in a while so I can improve my skills across different weapons
.

Pistol because the only other viable choice is the Wrangler and I don't like using that, it's technically unfair. Doesn't the Jag use more metal in order to construct faster? The upside to the Jag is kind of negligible imho as long as you are whacking the buildings, it really doesn't construct that much faster.

Eternal Reward is great especially when paired with the Dead Ringer, L'entranger, Familiar Fez (Saharan Spy) once you get used to not being able to cloak or disguise on demand. Very useful for unaware opponents, feign death with DR, slip behind enemy lines or your enemies, uncloak and let the chainstabbing commence

Well I know there has been no recent airblast buffs so I know I've gotten better with airblasting. Pyros have always been kind of overpowered considering no matter what class getting anywhere close to a pyro renders me dead within a couple seconds. The classes that need re-tweaking/re-balancing are Pyro, Heavy and Demoman and Soldier. For Heavy the Miniguns, for Pyro the Flame Throwers, for Demoman the Sticky Launcher and for Soldier the Rocket Launcher. Weapons are way to spammable which takes some fun from the game. This can be downright frustrating especially when you are attacking and red team is spamming rockets, grenade pills, sticky bombs into the spawn area.

I responded to you in the quote.

um.....no. Constructing doesn't use metal other than the initial cost. The 30% faster construction makes a big difference. I love the gunslinger but I go crazy waiting for my structures to finish construction.
Speaking or wrenches, I was wondering if buildings could be built/repaired faster if the wrenches attack speed was upgraded :3

I thought it did for some reason, still the upside is negligible when you are at your buildings whacking them. I've tried using the jag and like I said the construction of buildings wasn't that much faster for it to be viable for me.

I just played some TF2, and it went so well, I almost killed more people than I died. I also came second on my team. If I'm the second best person, it really did explain why we were beaten so badly.

Technically yes.
