I've been thinking lately, and I'd appreciate some opinions on two subjects: BFB vs. stock Scattergun, and Loch vs stock launcher. In both cases, half the people I see think the non-stock is amazing and in every way superior, and the other half is adamant that it's a gimmick that has multiple flaws and is in general only situationally useful, and that you should stick with the reliable stock weapons.
My own opinion/rant about the BFB: (Show Spoiler)
The BFB is excellent for hit-and-run tactics, where you get in, unload your four-shot clip for massive point-blank damage, and get away with your 173% speed, reload, repeat. Which, in theory, is exactly the way the Scout is supposed to be played in most cases.
Except that in practice, it is really rare for a map to be so empty that you can safely retreat at your leisure. You can also find yourself cornered or surrounded. While that's never good, if you have several shots in your clip you can at least deal some decent damage before dying, whereas if you're reloading there's nothing you can do. And when playing payload/CP, scouts, with their double capping speed, are meant to attend to the objective - with support, of course, but that doesn't mean that they won't be fighting themselves. A four-shot clip penalises missed meatshots very heavily and forces scouts to stay away from any concentrated fighting and keep an escape route always available, whereas the 6-shot scattergun can allow a scout to be a lot more aggressive.
In short, I personally believe the Scattergun to be more versatile and the better option; however, I will also admit that I haven't used the BFB all too much.

And the Loch: (Show Spoiler)
Honestly, I have almost no opinion, which bothers me because due to the difference in projectile speed, I really should choose something and stick to it if I want to hit anything at all.
I guess it comes down to damage calculations. The stock launcher averages at 100dmg, the Loch at 120. Sandman scouts are obviously OHKed by the Loch and not the stock, but that isn't really a deciding factor. Is there any significant class/loadout/building for which the stock requires and extra pill? I don't think so, unless I'm missing something. And the projectile speed doesn't seem to matter all that much (unless you're used to one, in which case you'll consistently miss with the other).
I guess overhealed heavies can cause a problem for the stock - four shots will deal only 400 damage, then you have to reload and shoot a fifth one before a total of 50HP has been re-healed, and not die in the meantime. That said, while the Loch would dispatch a heavy in four shots with 480 damage, due to the reloading delay for the fourth shot I don't think the heavy would die to that while being healed, either.
So I guess that means that the stock launcher is superior in pretty much every way?
