AnyOldName3 Wrote:I've not looked in this thread for a few gazillion posts, but the other night I tried to run a TF2 server for a few friends, and when it reached a certain number of users connected, it lost its connection to Steam and kicked everyone. Eventually it came back online, but still lost connection when we tried again. Is this a known thing with TF2 servers, or is it just an issue with my university's internet setup?

It's likely valves fault. Google around and post in the tf2 steam forums if you can't find anything.
"Fixed item levels not displaying during trading sessions"

Ther ya go
Ah ok. Kind of a weird bug if you ask me, but at least all of the collector's levels are still there and valuable.

EDIT: Also, WTF. At least here in the UK, people are buying keys on the Steam Market at prices higher than in the Mann Co Shop. http://puu.sh/gGDTY/1352d2fd4e.png (and at Mann Co. they are sold for £1.59). Seriously, how does economy even work?
Is that a spider-sentry on the right?
It's really weird because you can place sentries anywhere.

Yee.

I have never really gotten into competitive simply because I cba to get into a team and all that, but with a matchmaking system like that "casual-competitive" play (i.e. randomly joining a match with random people you never met, but who are of a similar skill level to you and who all want to play a serious, competitive match rather than mess around as trolldiers or in groups of 7 snipers) will finally become easy and enjoyable.
Is it competitive or skill based? I see complaints about 6's or Highlander weapon bans that it will basically just be glorified pubs. Now I'm all for skill based matchmaking if they manage to swing that. No more potato level players that never played FPS games or Asian level - in front of a computer 24/7 pubstompers wiping floors with teams too inexperienced to fight back.

Also, Source2 port please. TF2 is the first game or should be the first game to receive a Source2 port. No other game is in need of Source2 more than TF2.
Well not much info has been released, but as has been mentioned in the video Valve's goals with this coincide pretty well with the competitive community's wishes. Skill-based matchmaking is a pretty important part for a competitive system like that, so I would say that it's very likely to be implemented.

Also, they mention in the video that Valve will use this new "official" competitive mode to gather data regarding things like weapon usage, which should in theory allow them to balance weapons better and/or make well-informed bans (with a chance to un-ban weapons once it gets balanced or the metagame changes).

Also, is there any information whatsoever on when Source2 can be expected? I haven't been keeping up to date with it.
From the way it looks they aren't prioritizing in favor of TF2 which could benefit the most from a Source2 port. Nothing conclusive such as dates or anything but you can be there will be massive collaboration with server owners as there was with Steampipe when it's ready to be pushed.
