"Demoman can no longer detonate sticky bombs while taunting"

teh_speleegn_polease Wrote:Also, I'm going to sound like a total noob here... But how exactly do you find a private server? I assume you have to use the advanced server search tool, and I have done that before, but what do you search for to find a good server?

Just open the server browser and anything that doesn't say "Valve server" in the title is privately owned. Try some of them out and bookmark the ones you like. Develop an idea of what you're looking for in a server based on that and try to find others that meet those criteria. And stay away from the "big chain" servers. For example over here we have skial, lotusclan, no heroes, etc. Which are massive organizations/clans with many servers. They tend to be shit in my experience. I'm sure you have your own equivalents over there in Europe.

teh_speleegn_polease Wrote:And of course, there will always be people afk. Which will nevertheless be taking up a class slot.

Most servers have some kind of timed auto kick function for afkers.

teh_spleleegn_polease Wrote:As for class limiting scripts: it works, but it can also get very annoying if, say, you're a good sniper, but the server you're on already has two noob snipers that are basically doing nothing for the team. Also, I've seen a lot of servers implement these scripts for all classes... Which is pretty stupid. Sometimes, you may need more than two soldiers/demomen/scouts/whatever.

Unfortunately the only way around that problem would be to ask people to switch classes based on experience and kick them if they don't. And that would introduce a bunch of new problems. Enforcing that would require active admins at all times and there would be an enormous risk for abuse.

But it's not that big of a problem. Since pretty much any player that's really good with sniper/spy will probably also be very good with other classes too.

Xtreme2damax Wrote:Those pubstompers should take note and play against similarly skilled opponents on community, private or invite servers that is if they are as good as they think they are.

Welcome to the world. Every multiplayer game that I have ever played has this problem because it's in our basic human nature to want to win in competitive activities.

Xtreme2damax Wrote:Valve servers are not really a good place to pick up the game, learn the basics and fool around anymore because of tryhard pubstompers quickly rolling the other team.

People trying to learn the basics shouldn't care about winning. They should care about being able to fuck up everything royally without getting yelled at or kicked. And valve servers provide that.

Xtreme2damax Wrote:I don't want to play on clan servers either where several players are comp level, they might stack or be facing the same imbalanced teams issue.

So wait you don't want to play on pubs because of stacking and you don't want to play on private servers because of stacking? That leaves......um......

Xtreme2damax Wrote:A casual no pressure server with similarly skilled mature players would be nice but mature players and good sportsmanship seem to be a rarity in the TF2 community.

I have plenty of such servers that I have invited you to but you continue to play on pubs and skial dustbowl. I'm beginning to think nothing can possibly meet your strict criteria for a perfect server and that you will always find some reason to avoid a private server and go back to pubs. Then continue to complain about tf2 every week on this forum for MONTHS now. Which is getting really annoying btw. It pains me to say this but from this point forward I'm just going to have to start ignoring your rants. Everytime I try to take the time to respond and offer suggestions I'm met with yet another long rant about all the things you hate about tf2 in which you bring up the same points you bring up every time which I have already heard a thousand times at this point. So why bother?

I guess I'll just say this. I don't know why you seem to be getting severe lag in every server where nobody else is having problems. But I would appreciate it if you would stop complaining about it or blaming the game since the issue is clearly on your end and can therefore only be fixed by you. And if you're expecting a server where imbalances never occur (this happens all the time in teamplay games even when the server is filled with people that have good sportsmanship) then you might as well give up multiplayer gaming entirely. Or just TF2 since you seem to hate it so much. Or you could just play with us and have fun.

I have been avoiding this talk for so long you have no idea. Normally I would just keep my mouth shut and try to continue being nice but your attitude towards this game is becoming so toxic that it actually makes me dread having to read this thread when that unread graphic pops up. Because I just know it's going to be yet another post by Xtreme ranting about all of the games imperfections. I am sorry if you find any of this offensive or think that I hate you. That is not my intention.

Xtreme2damax Wrote:I resorted to Valve servers and simple maps because my performance started to deteriorate and started doing terrible in comparison to how well I did before. I am having trouble hitting most of my shots now not to mention hitreg being such a joke.

Well if you insist on only playing on shitty servers you shouldn't expect great results.

@teh_speleegn_polease

Please don't let any of this drama I've created here deter you from playing. It's a great game, I swear. Or at least I still have a lot of fun with it.
TL;DR Volvo pls fix game
@NV: thanks for the tips.

NV Wrote:Unfortunately the only way around that problem would be to ask people to switch classes based on experience and kick them if they don't. And that would introduce a bunch of new problems.

My point exactly. There are solutions that can be implemented, but they all bring their own problems and there is no perfect solution.

However, in my experience that happens seldom enough not to be a huge concern.

NV Wrote:Please don't let any of this drama I've created here deter you from playing. It's a great game, I swear. Or at least I still have a lot of fun with it.

Don't worry, I'm not going to stop playing a game just because it's flawed and it basically sucks Tongue

JK, I agree that's it's a good game. Also rants always happen and always will on any subject, I don't care too much.
I never insinuated much less said the game sucked, is a bad game nor do I hate it and nothing is flawless.. I realize that. I have fun playing it, more than anyone can imagine and is pretty much the only multi-player game I play. In fact it is the only game I play and gets the most attention out of my library of 200+ games. I shouldn't get flack for voicing some concerns and discontent, posting ideas how things can be improved.

I love this game and it just pains me to see Valve not give it the attention and fixing it deserves to keep the game alive. They neglect fixing issues some that should be quite simple to fix taking months or even years to fix if they get around to fixing them. When Valve manages to get around to fixing issues they more often than not tend to break the game even more.

I'm glad they are trying to fix issues and optimize the game now but these regular updates with bugfixes wouldn't be happening if the collective community didn't start mass complaining and contacting Valve employees. Up until recent updates would happen once a month if the community was lucky and became a case of adding more cosmetics rather than fixing issues. There's just no denying the game is in dire need of fixing, modernizing the engine and game overall but I don't hate it or think it sucks just the issues plaguing this game are frustrating. I just need an avenue to discuss, perhaps mildly vent on occassion, pose ideas for improvement. Spuf/Spud isn't a good place to do that, too many trolls who just say crap like umad or umadcausebad. Often on Spuf threads/posts face non-serious or troll responses, spam that isn't worthwhile discussing much there. At least posting here I know members are more mature and can expect serious replies that add to discussion, not detract from it.

I saw nothing in my posts that would be considered outright ranty, negative or remotely resembling a complaint and re-read my posts up to two months back. The only recent thing I said was playing Mann Up with friends because I don't want to be kicked by ****wad randoms, votekick abuse is a real issue in Mann Up and to a lesser extent Valve servers in my obsevation thusfar. In the past I may have voiced some discontent about some things, seeking solutions for issues I was experiencing, posting things that could/should be improved, changed or fixed. Mostly I voice legitmate concerns and frustrations but in my mind wasn't really meant to be complaints or rants.

Btw this and my last reply weren't meant as rants or complaints and I'm not bothered (too much) by your response, I'm just responding to you. I admit I'm a bit confused what you problem is and am just not seeing why anyone would have a problem or be annoyed by what I posted.

Edit: Anti-Ultimate hit the nail on the head i.e. plz fix game, short and sweet. I often over-explain, mistype or don't use proper wording so on ocassion what I post may appear ranty when it's not meant to be. Sorry about that at least, not something I can really help as it's part of my diagnosis. It's just an unintentional ramble not anything negative due to having a jumbled thought process and mixing things up. I tend to do similar things when speaking to people verbally but am more conscious about it now. Just pay it no mind or politely point it out, no need to get annoyed and think it's anything more than what it is.

So tl;dr seems I need to carefully word my posts and proof read.
Quote:Welcome to the world. Every multiplayer game that I have ever played has this problem because it's in our basic human nature to want to win in competitive activities.

Yes it's a competitive game and competition and wanting to win is human nature. However where is the competition if there is no challenge i.e. high skilled pubstomping players who coordinate and use teamwork vs unskilled newbies that lack coordination and teamwork. Doesn't seem to fit the bill of competition imho and might as well claim playing againt an inaminate object i.e. brick wall is somehow competition. It's an empty, meaningless hollow victory that only special types of people usually elitist on their high horse smug over-confident kids with superiority complexes would find any fun in. For everyone else winning so easily would be quite boring even more so after the first one or two times they would say lets balance this **** out, this isn't any fun. These pubstompers always vote against scrambles, if they get balanced they just rejoin the same team or sit in spectator until they can.

Quote:Well if you insist on only playing on shitty servers you shouldn't expect great results.

I resorted to playing on Valve servers because of bad internet, inferior hardware and other issues that was detrimental to my already mediocre performance/skill for the amount of time I've played this game. I mistakenly presumed according to feedback from others Valve servers were low skilled. So I thought joining servers where the overall skill level was lower would allow me to perform acceptably given my situation. Valve servers were fine for a while then Valve had to screw up quickplay and nearly all Valve servers became stackfests where it's literally impossible to win. On the flip side several community servers once filled with players became barren wastelands seeing no or low player counts outside a small window when regulars join. Pubstomping Valve servers isn't anything new but was far more rare until quickplay was changed. You can't pick up the game, learn mechanics, basics while having a chance of simultaneously winning rounds, it's either or - or so it seems in my observation.

Quote:People trying to learn the basics shouldn't care about winning. They should care about being able to fuck up everything royally without getting yelled at or kicked. And valve servers provide that.

See above in bold. Why should anyone including pubstompers care about winning and taking the game so seriously? Just because players are trying to learn doesn't mean they shouldn't care about winning or be allowed to win some games, everyone is learning at any given time. Being rolled constantly is no fun for the team being rolled and shouldn't be fun for the pubstomping team doing the rolling but people have found amusement and fun in weirder **** I guess. It's almost the equivalent of being on a rookie sports team with all rookie players vs professional players, use cheap tactics such as knocking rookie player down or hitting them in the groin when they're about to score and no chance of winning a single game because the other team is so skilled/coordinated and can outplay the rookies no matter what they do.

Quote:So wait you don't want to play on pubs because of stacking and you don't want to play on private servers because of stacking? That leaves......um......

Believe it or not people don't want to play against entire teams of high skilled players and clanmates if their own team is not also composed of similarly skilled players or clanmates. On clan servers clanmates will often stack onto one team as with other pubs. Sometimes it's possible to come across servers were players aren't total douches and poor sports willing to balance out the teams and avoid stacking but that generally hasn't been my experience whether Valve pubs and most community servers I've joined.

Quote:I have plenty of such servers that I have invited you to but you continue to play on pubs and skial dustbowl.

As I said:

Xtreme2damax Wrote:Btw your schedule is just really bad for me. It seems you are rarely on earlier and I notice you on at night but it's too late and I'm just too tired. Sometimes when you play I'm on another server and by the time I finish the game, notice you are on you end up quitting when I join. It would be nice if we can arrange a game ahead of time at a time that is good for all of us and it be more than myself, you and ExtremeDude2. When I'm not expecting to play with anyone I do tend to stick with one map but I play others as well such as Hoodoo, Badwater, BarnBlitz, MvM pubs and more recently Cactus Canyon or Robot Defense. For control point maps I'm generally a Dustbowl addict and don't really play other maps for that game mode when playing on my own without friends.

I was playing on various community servers and maps, not just Skial, Valve servers and Dustbowl although that's where you'll tend to find me when we haven't arranged to play ahead of time and I'm expecting to play on my own without friends. I've stated numerous times for anyone that joins if they don't like the map/server I'd be willing to switch. If I notice any of you online and ingame I'll typically join although sometimes when I do you end up leaving. Other times if I'm in a game I'm too involved I either don't see the message immediately or finish up the game to join you then you leave. :/

Quote:I guess I'll just say this. I don't know why you seem to be getting severe lag in every server where nobody else is having problems. As I said not everyone has these issues. It's a case of the 1% not believing the 99% lol and just because they have no issues no one should so it surely must be on their end. The threads I linked you to are enough evidence it's not just me nor my system or internet and several other players are affected. It's not baseless complaints or hating the game these are real issues affecting several players. TF2 is just strange to the point performance issues exist on modern hardware that experiences no issues with other game. Two players could have similarly spec'd machines with same base programs and drivers installed, one experiences performance, stability issues, lag and fps drops while the other doesn't.

Quote: They should care about being able to fuck up everything royally without getting yelled at or kicked. And valve servers provide that.

That's kind of a fallacy.. Despite Valve servers being more "lenient" due to being composed mostly of players that just don't care or are too bad to care that isn't always the case. Even on Valve servers "learning the basics" "fooling around" and "picking up the game" are what others consider derping around and not being a credit to to team i.e. deadweight not much unlike being the fifth spy/sniper. There will always be someone who will become annoyed and such dead weight will find themselves on the end of a votekick as any other server with players on the team trying to win.. Just because the other team is so stacked those that want to win and are trying to win won't without halfway decent teammates capable of cooperating and playing classes the team needs. If teams were closely matched and it was a near even game then no one would mind fooling around a bit or the fact some players are so bad they can't even W, A, S, D like they never played a fps game before. So those that want to win or at least try won't because of other players holding the team down against high skilled for pub play players. I almost always don't have the leisure of being on the good team and if I do I almost always get balanced to the bad team or the good players switch to the other team to stack once the "bads" rage quit. Valve servers do not magically give immunity to players i.e. horrible never played a fps players especially if they choose classes like sniper/spy and more so if teams are so uneven.

I'm not making baseless complaints, I'm not alone with how I feel and certainly don't hate the game. Some stuff is frustrating, could be fixed or improved and that's what I was voicing in my concerns for a game I thoroughly enjoy playing. Due to Valve either neglecting the game sans cosmetics and community content updates than focus on fixing the game with regular bugfix and balance updates my blame and frustrations lies upon them for my declining interest in this game not the game itself. When they decide to tackle bugs they either fail fixing the issue or create more issues that will remain unfixed for a long time to come. Everything I said could barely be registered as complaint, certainly I see no indication I was being toxic and negative nor was mindlessly ranting about stuff at least not on purpose.

I'm sorry I didn't directly address you in my prior posts, didn't feel like directly quoting and responding for whatever reason.

To clean up a bit quoting what I posted..

Quote:The post was not ranty perse and listed stuff that needs to be improved because the vanilla Valve implementations outright suck and when I say that I am not just referring to skill level and pubstomping. Default hud is garbage, too bulky and takes up much screen space even on my 25.5" (16:10) @ 1920 x 1200 monitor so I have to use something like PVHud. Vanilla auto-balance/scramble and votekick is garbage for the reasons I mentioned in my previous posts. This game has several issues most longstanding that Valve doesn't seem concerned with fixing and only after mass complaints have they started recently focusing on fixing issues, optimization. While there are those who never have issues there are several experiencing extreme performance issues, stability issues, massive fps drops, stuttering and lag/rubber-banding..

The latest "optimization" update introduced stuttering/micro-stutter every two seconds or so for several players. There's several more issues that I don't feel like posting right now but have been around long enough at least most players if not all should've experienced them by now.
Quote:Updated the auto-balance code to immediately respawn players that are automatically switched, or that voluntarily switch, during a balancing period

Woooooooooooooooooo
Uhh, can anyone explain why my ping is lower when I set fps_max to 30?

Also, animations are slow too at fps_max 30.
I shouldn't care anyways, but think about the people playing on a potato (or a shitty laptop)
fps_max is a little broken as of a long time ago, I would recommend limiting the FPS externally.
Yeah if it's behaving correctly I can't think of why that would happen. The only thing I can think of is if client side performance is taken into account when calculating ping (which means it isn't actually ping) like BF games did for awhile. But I know tf2 doesn't do this
