I don't know what to say. This game takes great fps mechanics and goes a step further by providing four things that most modern fps lack:

1. Teamplay.
This is why I can't stand CoD. CoD is a game where everyone tries to act like rambo running around like idiots inside a meatgrinder and respawning every once awhile to do the same thing over again. I require teamwork based gameplay mechanics to truly get sucked into a multiplayer game. Team Fortress 2 is a game where teamwork is the one thing you need to win, not skilled players. The downside of this is that if your team is bad and refuses to cooperate with each other or plan things out there is really nothing you can do about it. But this can easily be avoided by sticking to good servers and making a bookmark list. Teamwork adds depth and immersion. It makes things more interesting, unpredictable, and satisfying. The satisfaction when you find a good group of mature players and work together as a team to win simply cannot be put into words. It is glorious. This brings me back to the days of bf2 and project reality, only not quite THAT deep.

2. Depth/diversity.
Every class features entirely different gameplay mechanics. So different that it's like you're playing an entirely different game just by switching classes. This diversity in fps games also has a tendency to raise the learning curve and skill cap. Both of which are extremely high in TF2. This is a game that takes weeks of obsessive playing or months of casual playing to adapt to, and years to master. Because each class is so different your skills don't transfer over well from one class to another, each class needs to be mastered individually. You might therefore be tempted to find the class that best fits your playstyle and just stick to that until you master it but this is a bad idea. Because this is a teamplay game you need to become ok/good at all classes first, that way you can contribute to your team in whatever way your team needs you. It is strongly advised to play whatever class the rest of your team isn't playing, having a balanced team is very important. If for example you have 4 snipers on your team, make sure to point this out to them because that shouldn't happen if you want to win. The unlockable weapons often completely change the dynamics of each class. Playing as a spy with an invisibility watch is totally different than playing as a spy with a dead ringer, it's like a completely different class. Most fps developers are afraid of giving players this level of class and weapon diversity because it makes balancing the game extremely difficult. But TF2 is well balanced thanks to years of painful patching and polishing. It's not only the classes and weapons that are diverse, so are the gameplay modes and maps. This provides the ability for the game to entertain you for an absurd length of time without anything feeling stale.

3. A great community.
Every game is fun with friends. I think we all know that by now. But what if you don't have any friends that play a certain multiplayer game and you want it? Should you not buy it? Well that depends on the strength of the community. Multiplayer inevitably gets boring after awhile without a strong community no matter how good the gameplay mechanics are. But TF2 has an absurdly strong community even after all these years. TF2 has lots of huge clans of friendly mature gamers that are a lot of fun to play with, have their own dedicated servers with an absurd level of control, and host lots of fun clan based events. Most of them don't care if you're an outsider either, they're just there to have fun. Both competitive and casual clans exist and both are a lot of fun to play with. The modding community is strong and healthy and shows incredible creativity. They are actively encouraged by the developers with powerful tools and the developers add community made weapons and maps in patch updates and even pay the modders substantially for there content if it makes it into the game. There are few games that I have played where this type of relationship between the community and the developers existed. The developers themselves are extremely creative as is the game, they work hard to make the world feel immersive and stylized. The game has inspired others to create vast amounts of content on youtube, deviantart, etc. This is the mark of a creative game. The game has a "culture" of humor surrounding it and its community. I could go on and on. Not only have a fallen in love with this game, but I've fallen in love with valve and its community. Of course part of the reason for that is my desperate attempts to get as far away from the CoD fanbase as possible which has now spilled into battlefield (unfortunately). Everyone is just so damn friendly that it's impossible to do anything but laugh or smile. Compare that with fanbases filled with hatred where ad hominem attacks break out every 5 minutes like clock work. You can see why being part of the former rather than the latter is preferable.

4. A company that cares.
And I mean really cares about its customers beyond just profitability. Gaben and valve are awesome people. This is simply indisputable. If there is a polar opposite to greedy, secretive, and evil companies, it is valve. The way they treat their workers should be the golden standard for the entire industry, but sadly it is quite rare. This is a company so morally incorruptible that they refuse to take the company public because they are afraid of what investor influence would do to them! Gaben seems to care little for money and gives a lot of his to charity. Charity is another thing that surrounds both valve and its community. Every time you read anything about them your heart melts with joy. Read this for example: http://blogs.valvesoftware.com/abrash/valve-how-i-got-here-what-its-like-and-what-im-doing-2/
This is the kind of stuff that makes it damn near impossible for me to not support them in every way I can. I believe in everything they stand for very strongly. Not to mention steam pretty much single handedly rescued PC gaming from a dark future.

I recommend you try out scout. It feels a like like playing quake III. Fast movement and aiming (twitch shooter), kill enemies quickly, but extremely vulnerable and dies quickly especially if you stop moving.

I could go on and elaborate more on these points as well as provide additional points since obviously I've thought about this a lot, but I'm already 15 minutes into this post, so I better stop.
Well there are those retarded hats that are given to who (basically) spends the most money >.>
Which has resulting in mountains of humorous content. This one still makes me burst into tears laughing:

I Heart to idle Big Grin (still haven't found any weapons with qualities yet tho >.>)

You won't ever find weapons with qualities. You will only find unique ones.
Stranges come from crates.
Vintages come from before the f2p update. As a newer player, you'll need to get them from trading someone else.
Genuines come from other game promotions, like a G. Widowmaker from a preorder of Deus Ex.
Other qualities come from rarer circumstaces (haunted, self-made, community, unusual).
I finally found a salvaged #40 crate on one of my accounts.

I see Undecided, but I also did just find out there is an item limit per time so >.>
Hey ExtremeDude, you should consider joining a regular server with myself and a few other friends. I was playing on one of the skial servers with a couple friends and it was quite fun.

Care to elaborate?
I meant instead of just idling, join a normal game with myself and a few other friends from another emulation community.
